Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I just wanted to hijack this thread temporarily to post this notification:

Some fantastic news!!! CiaranM, our most recent Forum Sponsor in the form of TropShop, has seen our plight in that we had no prize for the July Competition round and has very generously stepped up to the line and has donated a €50 voucher to the winning entry!

Thanks so much Ciaran, you're a star!

I once entered a picture of a 6lb trout from Derg - as ever, I didn't get one vote!!!

You could always pop down the road to Ian's a take a few snaps there (I once also submitted a pic of his Koi with similar result - I don't think I'm destined to ever get any votes!).

They will wait until a fraction of a second before you hit the button then off they go. Drives me mad some times, all i can think is thank god we have digital cameras now, imagine what it was like in the old days when you couldn't view your pic's and had to pay to develop them. Must have been a nightmare.

Stuart.

Come on guys no excuses ,I took this pic with the camera on my laptop. My Hillstream loach and cory , best of friends.(thats if the picture actually loads up lol) :hammer: :hammer: :hammer:

To get a pic previously myself I had to turn off room lights and use the zoom function. The camera was on the tripod in the middle of the floor and zoomed right in on the tank.... that was the only way without spooking the fish (camera wasn't great all the same) but if I was too close to the tank they thought they were getting fed and there would be a frenzy.... use to take a while all the same :silly:

While we certainly would welcome all donations for Competition Prizes, I am mindful of the fact that we (the ITFS) have our Charity Auction in September and will be looking for everyone to be bringing stuff to that too.

So, please, temper your generosity for Forum Prizes to a degree, remembering we'll be looking for Auction Lots in due course as well.

Veering right off the topic but...John is the IFTS based in Dublin? I always wanted to join but with most if not all events being held in Dublin I'd hardly ever get a chance to go.It would be a waste of a membership fee. :( Is there any events down near the real capital?
