Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Not sure how these polls run now (the format seems different from when we were last able to use them) so we'll leave this open until Saturday to allow each and every interested person to vote on whether or not he/she would like to see a return of the Monthly Comps.
I feel it only fair to warn you all, though, that - initially at least - there will be no prize(s) as it will be necessary to show there is a more positive set of responses than there had been in recent times before we can start approaching would-be sponsors to come 'back on board' to donate prizes.
So, please vote either way as to whether not only do you want to see the Comps return but also whether you will actually both enter them - but not only that, actually submit a vote when the time comes.
John
Edit
The option for the second vote is not forthcoming as it creates an 'either or' pattern of vote so a slight amendment - so please only vote "Will Enter" if you are prepared to cast a vote at the end of each round.

I'm sure I can find a photo for a pizeless competition.

Since there will be no prize why not bend the rules a little bit. Say something like you can use photo shop, paint or what even to funky up the photos a bit. See how creative people can get.

Well, after less than one day the response is very encouraging.

12 for and only one 'not interested'.

At this rate we might curtail the length of the poll - let's see how it's looking tomorrow (24 hours after the poll was set).

John

Edit:
I just tried to close the poll early but there is no facility here for doing this.

But, I think that after a complete day the result is pretty (almost) unanimous so please watch out for an announcement in the 'Competitions' section later today.

The only problem I could foresee would be that not everyone has access to programmes like photoshop, although I think some of the photo hosting sites now offer limited ability for image manipulation.

Anyway - as it's for kudos alone I see no reason why a secondary 'manipulated' competition cannot be run parallel to each month's round.

If truth be told - even though it was against the Competition Rules, there were several entries down the years which had quite clearly been 'got at' anyway.
