Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

The only problem I have is with such a small base of active members I am a little concerned as to if I could interest anyone to put up a prize each month.
I will send out some emails requesting donations but in the meantime a new round can be started on November 1st - but with the 'warning' that there will possibly be no prize at the end. Some time back I asked if any members might have no-longer-wanted items to offer for prizes, but received no offers. Maybe we could all re-check our sheds and cupboards for possible prize donations? I'm certain I would have some bits and pieces to give, but nothing which would be of sufficient value to be offered as a first-place prize.
So, we shall start the November Round on Nov. 1 - get your camera batteries charged and start snapping away now but, please, do not send any entries until requested to do so.

This was largely my fault that you didn't get the Nano tank - I promised to collect it for you when I next went there - but for reasons I'll not bore you with I have just not been up to heading West - nor East, for that matter but I hope this situation will change in the not-too-distant future since
I have a few other 'pledges' I have made which I have been unable to fulfil on top of this one.

Will there be a theme to the competition or is it just a free for all this round
Due to the comparative proximity of the November round I think it would be best to make that round an 'anything goes' one, but then each person who submits an entry will be able to make a suggestion for the following round. then these can be tallied towards the end of the month and the suggestion with the most support (from Actual competitors) will then be the 'topic' for the next round. The round after that can be a further unspecified one, with entrants again deciding the topic for the one thereafter.
In case this is confusing (and I'm a little confused myself!) it will be:
November - Free of topic with votes from entrants for December round's topic.
December - Whatever topic comes out as first choice.
January No topic but with votes from entrants for February's round topic
ad infinitum

If there's a relatively small group who enter then wouldn't it be fair to say that declaring a certain theme or topic could make the number of entrants even smaller ?
Indeed - which is why we abandoned topics when tried before - the entry-numbers dropped appreciably when topics were tried.
If entrants want topics - so be it - if they don't then they will not be insisted upon. I just feel that the people who take the time and effort to send in their entries should have a say.

I like the idea of having another photo comp again. I have few items that i dont need but not good enough for the winners imo. But the idea of having the winner's photo on the main page sounds great!
+1
it's great to see so many offering prizes lets hope everyone get their entries in and show some appreciation for the donations
let's get the ball rolling and start snapping
i am just waiting for my fish to stay still for a photo
