Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

After a month (almost) of inactivity on the Photocomp scene here's a round for the month of February...

Sorry but there will be no prizes for this month but otherwise all other guidelines apply.

Up to three entries per competitor, only entries which are the original work of the person submitting the entries, entries only acceptable which have not previously appeared on this Forum - or anywhere else, for that matter.
There is no need to resize the images for Competition purposes - and GOOD LUCK to all entrants.

Please send in entries (if any) to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. as attachments to the email and - one last thing, PLEASE remember to add your Forum user-name as it really does help the organiser (me).

Oh yes, no specific topic - just as long as the image-entries are either Fish or Fish-related.

Is there any chance you can 'pin' this as the first post everyone sees, rather than it disappearing down the list as new things are added?
This might remind ones who have looked at the post, to post their photos rather than doing it tomorrow, as am sure many just look at the what's new section and so forget.
I don't know how hard that is for you or Darragh to do.
Anyway thanks for not giving up, I like seeing the photos. I will put one on tomorrow.

Unfortunately, with the Server now being used it isn't possible to 'pin' any postings to the top of anything but the actual Topic thread but so far as keeping it on top of the 'Current Topics' list it cannot be done.
However, we do try to keep it on the 'front' page - so to speak - by 'sneakily' (or perhaps not-so 'sneakily') promoting it if it goes from the current front page.
Thanks, though, for your input and we're looking forward to receiving your submission(s).

Good news,
James (irishzx10r) has donated a book for one prize:

It's an interesting book - he was kind enough to let me have the loan of it while I was 'indisposed' last year.
But the main thing is we now have a prize which (hopefully) will encourage some more entries.

Thanks James.

Same here I love looking through all the photos and trying to guess the winner.

John
I delighted someone else might get some use out of the book. On the subject of pin the post maybe a bump on the post from yourself every few days might keep the post to the top unless there is enough photos to post every few days to bump the post.

Something fishie going on here

Here's the bit from my earlier post (a 'terrible confession')...

However, we do try to keep it on the 'front' page - so to speak - by 'sneakily' (or perhaps not-so 'sneakily') promoting it if it goes from the current front page.

Just to bump this up again,

I had a great surprise today when I got a very nice parcel from Sebastian at Tropical in Limerick. (Rsgeeenline) who were the sponsors of the December round.
It was a good variety of sample fish foods and 20g containers of food. Plus a pen, catalogue and t.shirt!
I look forward to seeing what my fishing think of different foods.

Thanks very much for the generous prize.
