Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Good to meet you again!

Hi, I’m new…new in Ireland, not new in the hobby!

It was a pleasure to me that soon after I arrived here I’ve met some of you at the monthly meeting at Rosy O'Grady's and few days ago, at the IRISH OPEN FISH SHOW. I wish to thank everybody for the warm welcome that I was received with and as I promised, I present a briefly introduction of myself here, on the forum.

Regarding my experience on hobby I can say that since I was a child I have had at least one aquarium in my house, so, this way, aquatics became step by step, my second profession somehow, that in fact completes my first graduation :) as an environment specialist. I don’t want to count the year number since I have aquariums and keep fish and plants…this way I realize how I get old ;)
I was breeding many species of fish in the past, but in the last 10-15 years my great love became the planted aquariums. While I was looking for a more simplistic way of growing aquarium
plants, I have discovered Diana Walstad’s Natural Planted aquariums, and later Dutch and Nature style based layouts.

During the past years I was trying to experience some aquascapes with different size aquariums, and with different brands formula regarding the soil, lights, fertilization, etc... to understand how do they fit and to apply the most natural solutions on my aquariums biotope.

Even if back home I used to have few aquariums, one around 700l ADA Amazonia Soil, other 200l JBL Manado Soil for example… because I have arrived in Dublin for a few weeks only, I was still prospecting during the last weeks.
Suddenly my prospections stopped since my personal luck improved my “new Irish life” :) with a 30 l nano-cube gained at the Sunday show
So here I am, me and my new “nanoscape plans”, that probably will be populated with shrimps or few boras.

Last but not least I wish to ask you to be patient with my English as long as I’m not an English native speaker, promise to reward you for that in exchange with good advice in terms of aquariums.

Thanks,
ALEX.

Good to know you've joined the Forum Alex, and don't worry about your slightly less-than-perfect grasp of the English language - I'm from there this past thirty or so (?) years and still I have trouble expressing myself. Your English is fine!
Hopefully meet up again soon.
