Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

So I've been on the site for a few weeks but i haven't done any introduction!
I have a 96l tropical tank up and running for three weeks now.
In it I have six zebra danios which i am very fond of!
The tank has a sand substrate about 1.5 inches deep. I have some anubias, java fern, amazon sword, jungle val and java moss.
In the future I'd love to build a big amazonian tank but for now I'm happy with getting a few corys and some tetras!
I can't wait to become a part of this community and enjoy everything there is about keeping fish!
Niall

looks great , you know what type of rock you have in it ?
I have no idea what the large rocks are... I know that isn't the best thing to do but i thought they look class!!
They were in my front garden and i used to play with them when i was little. I boiled all the rocks twice in a pot on the stove so i think they're safe?

they are some great looking rocks and i am a real rock in tank fan , have got rocks from everywhere ! saying that one thing I would say recommend is boiling them letting them cool off a bit then put a scrape or cut in the rock and put a little white vinegar on the cut . If the rocks fizz dont use them , it means a high calcium content in the rock which will over time raise teh PH in the tank and a stable PH really is what you want

Oh... should i take them out and test then? The pH has been a 7.8 for the past few weeks in the tank (that's also the tap water pH)

Danios are hilarious you could afford to . Its like watching the movie little rascals all over again. My kerri danios have reached near full size very fast in the 180 litre.. all they do is chase eachother... still food and generally cause trouble. if i were you id add another six.
I'd definitely like another six!!
