Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi all, my name is Dan and im a fishaholic ;) Got into fish keeping about a year ago. Started off with the usual suspects, guppies danios (celestial pearls) cherry barbs and a couple of cleaners. A couple of months ago i was made redundant so ive had a lllllloooooooooootttttttttt of time on my hands so i decided to build my own tank to keep me busy until i find work. I have to say i loved building the tank (challenging as it was) but to see the finished product really gives a whole new meaning to job satisfaction. Il post some pics of the build and the finished tank as soon as i figure out how :) im new to forums... My profile pic is of one corner of the tank with a couple of my discus. Anyway, thats my story.. well first couple of chapters, lot more to come id say, fish keeping is addictive

Welcome along Dan,
I've moved your 'Introduction' post to it's own place so it doesn't get lost in the one where it was with Fishjam's Introduction.

Think most people here are addicts of various levels!
I got back into fish keeping while unemployed, but only getting into it properly again the last 7-8 months
And I might have bought 1 or 2 tanks too many lol

For those of u with a keen eye u may have spotted some dreaded algae in my tank, i cant clean it yet because i dont want to disturb the bacteria just yet as the tank is only set up about a month and ive already suffered a nitrite spike which was a nighttmare to keep under control, im over the worst of it now and the tank seems to be settling nicely. Anyway, comments and opinions welcome whether they're good or bad, id like to know what u guys think of my lil project ;)

Thanks man :). it was a great experience building the tank but the best thing about it is i get to have a big tank at a fraction of the cost of buying one from a shop, win win all around :)

And - very significantly - because you've built the tank 'in situ' you've managed to dispense with all the transportation issues at the same time.

A great series of pictures - thanks very much for sharing them with the Forum.
