Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi All,
Last time I kept the fish was about 20 years ago, now I am starting a new chapter.

Long story short, couple months ago I moved in to the place which has a fish tank built in the living room wall. It was not used for good couple of years and I thought It would be nice to make a use of it. I gave it bit of cleaning and filled up with a marine water last weekend.

The tank is about 300l, I will try to upload a picture however I am writing this on my phone so I am not sure if it will work :) picture was taken about an hour after the water went in.

Welcome along to the Forum, you've got the message pretty well, they love pictures here so perhaps you could give a 'blow-by-blow account (illustrated, of course) of how you progress from a newly-filled tank to the finished article.
John

Have to say, thats pretty cool!
I love the idea of having a large aquarium not tankng up space in the room!
Whats the overall plan? A few small exotic marine fish or lots of coral?
Id be tempted to do a mix of both I think!!!!!
Best of luck withit anyway

Thanks for the warm welcome ! I will try to upload pictures as I progress with it, in fact the tank is in the wall dividing my living space from my
photography studio so it will be easy to take the pictures of it from time to time.

I was lucky that the tank/lights/filter were there when I moved in. I thought that it will be cheap to take it from there but it wasn't a case :) The filter which was there was Eheim pro2 with heater element, I had to change it as the heater element got corroded and didn't work at all ( apparently it was fresh water model and previous owner used it with marine). Then I had to buy the heater, wave-maker, live rock, water and few other bits and pieces. Yesterday I bought second hand filter JBL 1501 and it works perfectly. So is about €300 quid already in it and no living creature yet :) but well I love it and I will go ahead with it whatever it takes.

Bdw, if someone is looking for eheim spares, drop me a line maybe I can help. Apart the heater the rest of the filter works great.

I am planing to start small and grow with a time, couple of inverts and 2-3 fish to begin with. I will not be looking at the corals as yet.

Next weekend will be 7 days in, I will bring water samples to the shop and hopefully I will be able to put snail or two
