Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I would like to introduce myself here on the forum so a little about me.
I was born in Switzerland in 1983 and moved to Ireland in 2009 because I fell in love with the westcoast and the sea and wanted a change. Ever since I moved here I was drawn to the sea and try to explore it and learn about its flora and fauna with all its mysteries.
Since I was a child I am fascinated by aquariums and by the way you can just drift away into a world that is completely alien to us. Bringing a “rockpool” into my home was always one of my dreams since I have first gazed into one when I moved here and just recently I have finally managed to do the first step

In my blog (www.irishrockpoolaquarium.com) I want to share my experiences and observations in this adventure of trying to create a rockpool aquarium with native irish marine species.

The man you need to talk to is Pete out at Home Aquariums in Atlantiquaria in Salthill. He is a walking encyclopedia on rockpools on the West Coast from Galway to Clifden and beyond.
Good Luck

Cool, Thanks for that. Might pay him a visit maybe this weekend.
Problem is, he's only there on Monday and Tuesday.

I had a look at your blog and its excellent so well done on that too.
Your mackerel fry intrigue me as they are not normally found inshore under 15cm. Are you sure that the fish are not three spined sticklebacks? The marine variant is usually fully scaled with plates compared to the freshwater which may have no plates along each flank
Regards,
Dec

To be honest I am not an expert, I wasnt sure myself, thought the only thing it could be where Mackerel. I looked at the three spined stickleback just now and you are definitely right thats what they are! How embarrassing

Your blog and photo's are amazing! Absolute perfect. Also fantastic is the amount of information you shared with us. Thank you. What amazes me as well that you still have a lot of seaweeds growing in your tank. I am hopelessly jealous! Hope to meet you one day in future and do a rock pool session together.
