Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hello to all,

Always been a fan of fish in any possible manner. Had a simple tank in Miami where I lived a few years ago and i missed it. A casual visit to seahorse aquariums resulted in an explosion: in 2 weeks I bought 5 tanks (23L, 30L, 60L, 96L and 240L)!

Currently running are the 30L and 96L (last one purchased yesterday).

- 30L nano is nicely planted and holds .... I have lost the count, but probably around 30 fish (neon, guppies, platties...). This is is my girlfriend's and she is nuts. The good thing is she wont oppose me buying stuff

- 96L holds: 5 discus (6cm to 9cm), 5 angelfish (2L, 3M) and 11 neons

Project: setting up the 240L for Discus, and the 60L to reduce load on the 30L. Got into all this blind really wanting one tank and here I am with a full load. And all second hand equipment.

Suddenly discovered discus may not be easiest fish to care for :) but here I am and will deal with it.

Appreciate in advance all the help i will receive.

Cheers

Welcome along B)
A bit of advice though, discus can be finicky or worse doomed if not given the right conditions but for starters for the occupants of that tank alone you will need at least a 500-600L tank and if you would like to put up more details or pics I'm sure the resident discus keepers will be able to advise further :)

hi, I am afraid i wont fit anything bigger than 240 to 300L here, but most of these guys are still small and have shared a 96L for the last 2 years with their last owner. Moved them to my home yesterday and hey did seem a little shaken and very fearful but today they seem peaceful and relaxed, in their original tank. The 240L will wait a few days as I decide what to do with the landscape. Also tonight my girlfriend broke a glass thermometer inside it. So i guess we will be emptying it fully..
