Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Just joined and was encouraged to do a quick intro.. so here goes. I inherited an aquarium (150l) about 14 months ago and I quickly caught the bug! Before I knew it I was sitting up late at night browsing all kinds of amazing fish on my laptop (whilst the missus was in bed). The missus would wake then sneak up on me convinced she was going to find me browsing porn only to find Discus on the my laptop screen.. actually i think that worried her even more. Funnily enough we split up recently, i have custody of the fish, she has the kids. True story!
So i currently have couple Rainbows, Angels, Phantoms and some kind of miniature pleco. I've become obsessed with Discus, particularly the Brilliant Turquoise and Blue Diamond and Cobalt. I would eventually like to upgrade my aquarium to something thats more suited to these beauties. I decided to join the forum to get info and advice before taking the plunge... want to ensure i do it right and after all im still quite new to it all. So I look forward to chatting and bending your virtual ears for advice and keeping you updated on my progress into the world of keeping discus. Thanks all..

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about the split but least there is no one to complain about spillage or fish poo in the sink/toilet :D.

Not a fan of discus myself but sounds like an interesting setup. Any chance you could post pictures I'd like to see your rainbows and it will help identify your pleco aswel :p.

Der are a good few people on here always looking for new discus keepers so there should be a lot of info if any is needed.

I like the look of discus it's just the size of them that puts me off. I recently got rid of my silver dollars and my severum because they were banging into the glass (240litre) when I walked in the room, opened the lid to feed, when the light went on or when the telly went on an add brake an the screen changes from dark to bright  all that messing put me off large fish sadly but that could change in the future. Sucker fish has a wide enough range so it could be anything (hope it's not an albino algae eater my experience included a good bit of bullying). I look forward to the pictures :) .
