Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

My Pond is 6x3 miters. HAD BEAUTIFUL 36 Japan's Koi fish. Made it year ago. My wife made me crazy over couple of years, so finally she wins.
So i made my pond i bought small pump and filter which i thought will work for me but my pond went very dirty in two weeks time, looked like a swamp.
Just couple weeks ago spend € 1250 on Oase Filto Clear 30000 Set. And its amazing. Yes there are some green algey at the bottom but water still clear. At the beginning i said i had 36, when i fitted new pump and filter i realized that i have leaking hole. I had net over the pond but at that time i thought nothing will happens to the fish for one week. Only could able to buy patch on saturday. So that laziness cost me over €1800 - On Friday big bird came and eat nearly all my fish. Now have left only 8. Thank God this bird didnt took wife favorite fish ( Will post foto on saturday of that fish) She is lovely.

On Picture attached you can see my pond and grass, So where draw with pen that will be my future pond 10x4 But will do next year, will be expensive - € 5000 - 6000 including fish and more plants.

I think the realality of getting koi spawn to fry in a pond is unlikely , I am sure my koi have spawned many times normally early morning and the other koi just egg the spawn ,

Fry Koi???? Well I don't think they will taste nice, in fact I am vegetarian.
I will post pictures on Saturday. Want to catch my wife fish and show something. Noticed last week. But there is no Koi vet.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your fish losses. It won't be easy to find a vet that knows much about fish. There are lots of very experienced keepers here.

Fry is the term for baby fish lol.
What problem did you notice with the fish. Most problems with koi are fairly obvious and treatable. As paul mentions very few vets have any great knowledge of koi and you are better off getting advice on here. Post a picture of the fish and let us see the problem.
