Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I joined up after reading your woes on the PFK forum, sorry about that not able to help, but maybe in other areas?

You may or may not know but I run Devotedly Discus in East Sussex England and have done so since 1993.

I get many enquiries from Ireland for fish and dry goods - dry goods we can do - the shipping of fish we are working on.

I do of course have a commercial interest in aquatics, but I would also ask you to accept my word that basically I am an enthusiast and if I am able to help fellow hobbyist s in any way at all I will.

Cheers for now

Derek, we do get around to many shows, we exhibited at Hayling 2005 / 06 / 07 but were not invited last year :( I took my stand to the Duisberg World Championships last year, if anyone wants to go to the 2010 show I would reccomend it, 4 days long and the place is huge! and dry goods oh so cheap, and I mean cheap! 10 litre bucket of Tetra Prima £24....:woohoo: We did the British Discus Show last year in Bristol, and Stockholme, Sweden in April this year. October I am off to the Dutch show, another in Germany too, then The British show at Haydock Park, and thats it for this year!

I love the shows, usually working, but whilst "over here" club nigts etc seem to be on the decline, specalist shows are becomming more popular.

HI Mark I think I might have met you at the show in hayling Island too. It sounds like you have a busy schedule with the shows. Its great to see you on the forum and as derek says there are many discus keepers here who would be glad of you expertise. Welcome and I hope you enjoy it.

Hi Tom

The show in Germany this year is more a German cichlid show ( the international Discus show is every other year, 2010 being the next)
details www.zajac.de/websale7/?Ctx=%7bver%2f7%2f...3-aa/cont_messen.htm
I am going to the above, but not exhibiting due to the cost (£3,000) but will be at the 2010 Discus show at the same place.

We are going to the Dutch Discus show in October - www.discusclub.nl/onkd-2009/index.shtml

and the British Discus Show in November - www.british-discus-show.com
