hi to all
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi weed ....
Welcome along,I wouldn't worry about the pH at the moment.....It could even be a bonus depending on the type of fish you want to keep...what species were you thinking of...?

hi and welcome to the forum.
A pH of 8 is a bit extreme for community fish

what type of substrate and decoration is there in your tank?have you checked your tap water and also maybe get your fish store to test your water for you as a second opinion.
Let us know:)

Hi there and welcome.
Is that the ph value straight from the tap or do you have buffers in there?
It would be perfect of African Cichlids but you would be very limited regards the types because of the tank size. You would definately get away with some shellies though. Cool fish

hi guys and thanks for the warm and helpful welcome , i've just tested my tap water and it's ph is 7.0 to 7.5 i wouldn't think that would be too bad for tap water would i be right ! i've done a bit of research on the net and i found out that if one has lime stone , marbel or corel as decor and as it turned out i had a few marbel rocks in my tank so i removed them this morning so fingers crossed other than that i have a few nice pices of bog wood some plants like alternanthera rosaefolia, gymnocoronis green and bacopa monieri and a small 2 / 4 mm pea gravel i've an air pump with a defuser as well , any thing wrong with any of that i would be grateful for the input as for fish maybe something like platys , tatras ,dwarf gouramis and some thing for the bottom of the tank to deal with algae , am i aiming to high again any info , will keep you up to date with ph issue ,

Some gravel will buffer the water keeping ur ph and kh high. Play sand is great to use doesnt effect ph.
What fish you planning on keeping.....?
Get a shoaling fish like neon tetras, emeber tetras, harliquinns ets look great in groups of over 10.
