Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

G'morning all.. as most of you know I have a crack on my 240lt tank.whick Joe is going to sort for me on Sat.*Big wide Smile* I just wanted to say that I was ringing around furiously trying to find a replacement tank at a price I could afford.Rang pet store on kinsale rd roundabout, where I might add I spend a small fortune,& was disappointed that all they would advise me was they would sell me a new tank, which my funds could not meet about 500eu.

However I rang Sully's Pet store on the coal quay on the off chance he would have something.(I never buy any thing here)
however after telling Pat my dilemma I was absolutly blown away by his help.He offered to loan me a Tank, made nemorous calls on my behalf to find a tank I could afford..then rang me back to say he would order a Jewel tank..bout 500eu..& sell hood lights filter heater himself & only charge me for the tank (still couldn't afford it)It would have taken 24 days to arrive from UK. I feel this lad deserves a plug & I will be supporting him in the future when I am up & running again. This is what customer service is all about,if only they were all as helpful...There are nice good people out there!Hope everyone has a nice day :)

I have tried to make this point repeatedly - it's all well and good foe people to be buying from online and 'back garden' sellers - until you get into difficulties like you have experienced.
Where are they then???

Our hobby needs local shops - especially the likes of the one you have told us about.

Even the larger 'chain' shops (no names mentioned here) are unable to veer from the course set by 'head office', and - as has been discussed many times before here - often staffed by people who have absolutely no knowledge of, or interest in, what they are selling.

So, I repeat - OUR HOBBY NEEDS LOCAL SHOPS, when they're gone so is our hobby in Ireland, in my view...end of.

Just felt he deserves to be supported,I regret to admit I have never even bought a fish from him...I buy them all in the store on kinsale rd roundabout (no name mentioned here) so just keep in mind he seems to be a good guy only too willing to help when you really need it....on a brighter note Roll On Saturday Morning Woop!
