Man lost his hand in Pirahna atack..............

Hi all...today i was visiting SeahorseAquariums whit my girlfrend and my baby...was fine day no stress,day before i got few nice fish to my collection so i was pleased to go back there.We was watching new stock etc....and something happend!!!!!..a staff member was about to get the 5" piranha from the tank for the buyer...personaly i hate them coz my exp from past(got bite on my small finger..mark till now)..dude was filling up the bag and in sec this hungry beasts run after his finger!!!!!!!..DAMN!!!!they got tip of his finger...WOOOW!!...crazy to see it actually happening, Piranha bit the guy's finger..cant imagine what could happend after few sec...i got few pix after which i'll post tomorrow.

Was looking at them Piranha yesterday thought they looked quite big!

we dont need to watch jeremy wades river Monsters to know exactly what these fish can do he reckon ed they only attack sick or injured creatures or animals.


maybe we should get him to investateing this attack on his show

It was said that they only go for something of a certain edible size, anything too small won't get their main focus apart from snacking nor would they go for anything too big.... obviously the finger was just the right size
If ye ask me they were a complete moran to put their hand in a piranha tank, they got what they diserved IMO, at least ye got picz now get them up

Was it his whole hand ? or just a finger?

well jeremy wade was in an inflaitable pool with a huge school of them had his toes out and fingers and they didnt go for him so.

I am failing to see the point because being a form of nature nobody can honestly predict if they'll strike or not. Jeremy was also swimming with them in the amazon as was a member here yet weren't bitten. On Mfk there are piranha keepers who will say theirs are tame and won't touch your fingers yet would I go putting my fingers in there? In saying that loads can do it so I wouldn't base my source of info only on jeremy wade

Whether animals attack or not can depend a lot on their treatment, environment, mood etc at any given time. You can do everything right and still one day a pet will try and take a chunk out of you. I think far more fishkeepers are NOT bitten by piranhas than are.

Yeah, there's a world of difference between a 100g aquarium and the biggest river in the world

no real point fact is every single Pirahna wild or captive bred will act differently in certain situations

The Fish in the Tank weren't there very long, their previous confines could/must have been larger, given this, the frenzy caused by someone plunging a Net into a group of Piranha could have been mistaken for a feeding frenzy and one of them might have seen his Finger as prey.H.

I have seen a few documentaries where kids were swimming with piranha, but if I remember correctly, there was a comment that said it was only safe at certain times of the year.

It could be that piranha don't like the taste of hairy Germans !

There's enough proof in this documentary.

Yellow T-Shirts, Yellow Bikinis, and yellow dingies are a No No {Heiko doesn't wear yellow bikinis};

Ex-Porno star models are also favourite attack victims.....maybe tasty, but not their movies or their acting abilities (that is why this documentary did not say "Re-Entacted by Actors")

They have no problem attacking sweaty aged men with strands of long-hair amongst the baldy bits.

It does seem, however, and there is some proof, that wearing a duff sleeveless top(especially something made of wool) over a shirt is a deterent to Pirahna attacks.





On a less serious side, a tank full of Pirahna knowing that food comes in now and then from above is different to the wide opens of the Amazon.
They, and many other fish in captivity, should be treated with caution (or not kept at all perhaps).

I was in the shop yesterday....to have a snoop, have a bit of laugh with the person, and to get some food stuff for the fish (not spare bits of finger though ).

The tip of the index finger had a smiley face cut looking very much like a Stanley knife slice. Maybe quite lucky not to have the tip sliced off.
I believe a tetanus jab was given (but I didn't aks the detail of whether that was in the butt or the arm).
