Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Not so bad

Water from your tap is going to cost you just under half a cent per litre, meaning you will pay around 24c for a quick shower.

The Commission for Energy Regulation has published its proposed water charges, which will be around €176 for a household with one adult rising by €102 per extra adult where the house gets water in and (waste) water out.

Metered rates are €4.88 per 1,000 litres for water and wastewater services.

Households with septic tanks that do not need wastewater services will pay half that rate, or €2.44 per 1,000 litres.

Where water is unfit for human consumption, affected customers will still have to pay but will get a 50% reduction during the disruption to their service and a 100% reduction if the disruption lasts more than three months.

Customers with specific medical conditions that need extra water will have their charges capped.

The CER has also decided that if a premises has a leak, the charge will be capped until the leak is fixed. Those with medical conditions - the details of which have to be decided - will also pay a capped charge. - See more at: www.independent.ie/irish-news/revealed-d...sthash.8qKad8n7.dpuf

Appreciate Ian but not coming to you from Kilmainham to load 3000-5000 litres a week and take them to the 8th floor in the lift :)

Despite the impracticability for Miami I have to say that both Ian's - and other shops' offers of free water is really well worth considering. Waste water (ie the water you remove during water changes) is eminently suitable for many uses around the home (watering house plants springs to mind here - obviously I'm referring to fresh and not marine waste water). So - if it would prove more convenient for you than obviously it would for Miami (and I fully understand and sympathise with his predicament) then this could well be the 'way to go'. Unfortunately AV is over a hundred miles from me here otherwise I'd definitely be taking advantage of Ian's offer.

24c a shower, if it's a cold one. If you want it heated it'll be more like 40c. With 4 people in a house wanting 3-4 showers a week... each... it'll mount mount up. €5-6 a week, if everyone has a quick shower. What I'm getting at is that the charges taken in isolation don't seem like much but over time they'll add up.
