Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

New Pump For Darren.

Rather than tagging this onto the existing posting I decided to start afresh. By all means keep adding comments to that one, this is for Contributions (get yer money out!!!).

As no-one has objected to me doing the co-ordinating I'll also nominate myself as the collector.

Would all persons wanting to make a contribution kindly PM me and I'll reply with my particulars - as soon as we have enough, or the donation pledges stop coming we can go ahead and buy the replacement.

My tenner's already in - and Jill; no problems about sending Sterling - I have a UK account still running so can do the conversion with no Bank fees to pay!

So - PMs please, I look forward to all your responses and will post the names of all those making donations.

I think that just about covers it.

John

Yes,
I certainly am...(collecting the donations, that is).

Thanks Anthony for your help by making this a Sticky until Saturday.

We have eleven pledges from forum members so far, who's next?

Thanks for all the PMs and pledges, but no time for complacency for anyone thinking about donating.

I have asked of Gavin at Wackers and Drew at Aquatic Village if they would mind, for anyone not wishing to mail their donations, if it would be alright if people would be able to pay in their money to me via either of them - should you be visiting either shop in the near future.

They have both agreed to allow this so if you want to please pop your donation into an envelope and hand to either Drew or Gavin and I can collect when I make the trip over to the City in the next little while.

I would just ask that if anyone does pay in this way they could just drop me a PM to that effect - this will let me 'keep up' with the running total.

You can, of course still mail your donation to me if you aren't likely to be visiting either establishment soon.

Right, think that's the lot!

not to burst anyones bubble but The Irish Tropical fish society will replace Darrens pump for him. Its the least we can do for having the use of it and unfortunately the loss of it.

Gery Evans will kindly source the particular brand for Darren and the club will pick up the tab.

As for the pledges of money maybe you could give it to charity or discuss possible options for it. John you have a heart of gold and have done a wonderful thing as have all of you that have pledged money. It just goes to show the caliber of people who keep fish.

Thanks

nessa

Sorry,
I read and answered the PMs first, now I know I should have looked at the forum first of all.

Right,
Lets have a discussion about how else to use the donations...or better still my suggestion would be to let Nessa and Darren decide what it should be spent on...rather along the lines of John's earlier suggestion.

Over to you all.

I have to say I'm completely overwhelmed at how many forum members have rallied to this...even people who were not even at the show!

You know who you are - I take my hat off to all of you.

Right,
I think it's about time to wrap this up now...

I shall assume that no more donations will be coming...

To those who did contribute - well done! (You know who you are)

To those who promised but didn't send - I shall assume you either forgot or were put off sending by the fact that Darren's pump was replaced.

We have an amount of money and Nessa and Darren have both expressed the wish that it goes to a charity of their choice so that's what shall happen.

I leave it to Goldy or Platty to tell you what that will be.

Cheers,

John

ps should anyone wish to know how the total was made up please PM me and I'll give you a rundown.

hi john

just got back on line thanks to perlico being such a wonderful company NOT>>>>

Maybe something like crumlin childrens hospital or breast cancer would be my idea but also ask darren as he may have some ideas aswell.

You are great well done. Thanks to everyone who contributed. I know that the pump was replaced but it is nice to know that people still have a good nature and are caring enough to act. This is fast becomming rare in this day and age.
