Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Kilkenny Aq(what) ics! was created by SabrinaSummerville (SabrinaSummerville)
Driving back to Waterford from Dublin today I took a detour to pay a visit to Kilkenny Aquatics. They bill themselves as the biggest and best in Ireland and have been going for as long as I can remember.

I'd been there just four weeks ago so you can imagine my surprise when I pulled up in front of the place only to discover they've closed their Kilkenny branch.

Lo and behold, KA is now located in New Ross, Co. Wexford, but still called KA. I was more than surprised that they didn't have a little note that they gave customers four weeks ago to tell them they were moving.

Anyway, as my mind was set on it, I drove on and took another detour, this time to New Ross. I wasn't all that impressed with the new place as they seem to be down in stock. Anyone else been to the new store?

Hi Sabrina,

Not surprised to hear that they moved. I heard about them on this forum last year and took a trip down about a year ago as I heard they were the biggest in Ireland. I was far from impressed by the quality of their stock - big premises, but not much in it. Looked like a place on the way down to me.

Regards,

Ken.

Yes, today they didn't seem to have much of an idea where they were going either.

I asked when they'd be getting in more of a particular fish and they didn't know whether or not they ever would again.

I commented on the very low stock of aquarium plants and all they said was \"yes\" (as in, yes we don't have many plants).

What a pity - seems they used to be great.

I think they've had a branch in Ross for a good while. I used to find them good for tanks etc, but not great for unusual fish - the stocked all the common stuff.

I think all the fish shops in my region stock only the common fish.

Where's good for unusual ones?
