Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Called in there a couple of weeks after it opened and they'd very few fish at the time - goldfish, danios, guppies, tetras, and similar iirc and some empty tanks. Not a particularly big shop and they certainly had no marines and nothing particularly 'interesting' in terms of trops on display. Had a selection of plants too - didn't really look at dry goods or the rest of the shop tbh.

The shop wasn't long open at that stage and it wouldn't be fair to judge because of this. It's quite near to me so I must call back again sometime soon to see if they've broadened the range of fish.

Thanks for that Zing, sometimes takes a while alright for new shops to get up and running plus its a big help when fishkeepers give their imput as to their required field of fish, equipment etc to the shopkeeper.Usual run of the mill trops play a part in their bread and butter ( did i say that right )but for me differant or unusual species is a magnet for sales and return visits .........

It's not in the village so probably not as easy to get to as you were hoping for. I think the estate/apartments it's in is called Rossecourt but I can't remember for sure. If you're coming from Clonsilla you'll be coming via the N4 (even if just across it). Two options really - both very straight forward.

- take the Fonthill road as if you were heading to liffey valley but go straight through the roundabout instead of going left into liffey valley. Straight through the next roundabout (Powercity, Homebase, etc.. on your RHS). You'll come to a set of traffic lights - turn right at these (an estate called Foxdene should be on your LHS here). Past the church, straight through the roundabout and Rossecourt in on your left.
- take the outer ring road ... turn left at the penny hill pub, straight through 2 roundabouts (well 2nd exit of each anyway) and Rossecourt will be on the right.

Turn in and you'll come to a few shops (Centra/Spar/Londis or one of those) and a couple of others - it's one of these stores.

Actually - with the joys of modern technology here's a map ;)

maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=53.3417,...78&z=16&om=1

those maps are slightly out date - the outer ring road is listed as the Ballyowen Road and all the roundabouts on it are now traffic lights just to confuse you a little.

Hi Zing!
Is the shop any good? do they specialise in something or they have everything?

As I mentioned earlier they only had run of the mill fish (gold fish and some common trops) when I popped in - but the place was only open a couple of weeks and probably still setting up. I've seen better ranges of fish in your average garden center come petshop but then it was only after opening. I'll call back sometime I've a few mins to kill and see if they've broadened the range of fish.

Just a quick note on the new petshop in Lucan. Whilst it may not be fully up to scratch with stock and so forth. I do know the owner from a previous shop he managed and am confident he will (giving time) be fully stocked with fish to suit all needs. As I said I do know the owner from a previous shop and I bought my first tank from him. He has kept me going with advice and help. So whilst this may appear to be slightly biased, from my dealings with him I would recommend his shop to all.

I second Martynor. Sean who owns the shop is a nice guy and would be very welcoming to anyone dropping in to have a look around.
Stock is low at the minute but is steadily growing and should be of a good quality.
