Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

It is an unofficial class not under FBAS standards so it’s bit of a novelty, however don’t let that put you off there will be a very nice prize for the winner!
All inverts, shrimp, crayfish, frogs, axolotls etc are welcome.
If you are bring dwarf shrimp, as they are so small try to bring two of three (of the same type) typically for fish there is only one fish per tank (except for pairs and breeders groups) but as dwarf shrimp are so small it would be better to have two or three in the tank – please make sure they are the same type.
It would be great to get an idea of how many entries we can expect and the number of tanks needed so please pm me with details of what you intend bringing and or complete the entry form.
If you don’t know the common and Latin names don’t worry, but if you do, don’t be shy, it will be a great help.
Remember it is a good idea to bring some extra of you own water, a litre or two should be fine for shrimp – depending on frog or axolotl size a little more would be required.

Looking forward to it more this year than ever for some reason, probably because there is so much going on with Anton Lamboj visit, excellent prizes, new classes and all the media coverage it is getting!!

Media coverage - the emails I sent to RTE (Nationwide and Capital D) were totally ignored...you would think they'd have had the decency to at least acknowledge them!

I checked my pond and all the frogs have 'hopped it!'
There are rather a lot of tadpoles there though - although a Hooded Crow has discovered them and is rapidly diminishing their numbers daily!
Still, it might leave me a few to bring on Sunday.

I wonder - a bit like Nothobranchius eggs from a certain ebay seller - if there were actually any eggs there in the first place!
Good luck with yours.

John, looking forward to seeing your tadpoles (and you of course). I have a few myself this year and a few from last year which did survive in the burst tank in the back garden thank goodness. Looking forward to the frogs getting an outing and seeing who else is amphib mad.
John....me.
I will be there....and my focus will be amphibians for this event. No snakes, no lizards (well...maybe Chameleons).
Now....what is this new class 'Inverts'? what sort of Frogs? and does that also mean Tarantulas (=inverts)?

From the original post Ian, "All inverts, shrimp, crayfish, frogs, axolotls etc are welcome", it's a novelty class, but it would be fair to say that we expect them to be aquatic or partially aquatic species, so I think that means no Tarantulas and that has nothing to do with the fact that I am not the worlds number 1 spider fan

That's a pity Daragh.....my OH has a nice selection of rather big Tarantulas (and she is terrified of spiders). Just goes to show.
Never mind, maybe I'll get J to bring some along anyway (maybe just for yourself)
