Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

just to let you know that the Irish Tropical Fishkeepers Society are at the Aquatic Centre at Pet Expo this year, we are sharing a stand with Seahorse Aquariums.

Look forward to seeing some of you there.

The purpose of taking part is to bring new members to the club and to the forum, so there maybe some newbies signing up over the next few days, I am sure you will give them a great welcome.

We have prepared a leaflet on cycling your first tank which will be given out at the show, so that's one question you won't need to worry about :-)

I was actually thinking of going to this but didnt see anything worthwhile going to. This could be useful.

Will you have displays and stuff there?

Daragh has gone offline now but he'll be back, doubtless, later and will answer you then.
There will be displays there, to briefly answer you.

It runs all weekend.

Here's a link to it:

Just a few clips from Pet Expo today, very shaky and lo-res, but you the idea. All aquatics were from the ITFS/Seahorse Aquariums stand.

I was talking to Daragh last night and it sounds a really good exhibition, I'm going tomorrow - it's open today and Sunday...it would be good for anyone at a loss of something to do to pop down and support the lads there - they have put a lot of work into the stand and deserve a bit of 'back-up'.

nice video daragh.
i was at the show today and really enjoyed it. apart from the very nice seahorse and itfs stands there are numerous other interesting stands featuring all types of animals. after seeing the birds of prey as featured in daraghs vid, i intend to visit the raptor centre in sligo soon.
there is also a book stall selling aquatic and wildlife books at great prices.
well worth a visit.

30 tanks specialise in african cichlids, angelfish and various catfish

I would like to have gone to this show, but I have family over from NZ,and it would have cost me 60 euro plus car parking(if theres a charge, normally is at RDS events),and to be honest,I find it disgusting that I have to pay to go into an area for people to try and sell me their goods and services.I dont want to hear about costs and overheads, shops and shopping centres have them, and dont charge me to enter. That may sound harsh, but thats just how I feel.
I hope those that did attend, enjoyed themselves, and hope it worked out well for the club.
As it was I had a nice afternoon handling a raptor at a friends place, amongst other animals.

always on the lookout for interesting corys.pm me if you know off any!

Well done lads, great stuff from the looks of it. Those baby clown fish look amazing!
I myself went to a homes & garden expo in Mallow racecourse today!Went to the Petexpo 2 years ago when it was in Mallow and unfortuantely back then it was a missed opportunity for the aquatic side of things. There was a stand but it wasnt really prepared.
Anyhow, you guys look liked ye'd it all sorted. Well done again. Id send a text to Today FM the other morning about the stand being there hoping they would read it out but alas they didnt.

Cheers.

Good to meet a few forum members there and put faces to usernames.

I am glad we did it but also glad it is over!! The worse bit after three days is packing everything up and then getting home and unpacking it all again!!!

Thanks to Darren, Johney, Tommy, Paddy, John, Andrew & Johnh for doing a stretch at the show, for helping with set up, take down, transport etc.

Also thanks to Kealan, Geraldine, Rena and the rest of the Seahorse Aquarium gang, the stand was a joint venture and I think it worked very well. Hopefully we'll see a few new faces at the club meetings and here on the forum and they will sell a few more tanks :-)

Daragh

PS. If I forgot anyone, sorry and thanks to you too

Darragh,
Great to meet you yesterday. loved the tanks in particular the livebearer and the little tanks. the shrimp were beautiful. well done and the show itself was amazing with a huge range of stuff.
Had a ball even if the kids had to keep dragging me away from the tanks so they could see the rest of the displays. Got some nice books too so VERY HAPPY :) :) :)
