Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Look forward to the last one tomorrow, it has been an excellent series, very interesting quite apart from the fascinating Seahorses themselves. The phenomenal level of dedication shown by Kealin and a few others over the years has to pay off sometime. Where is the likes of Enterprise Ireland, Fas and other agencies, it is a disgrace that there is no grant / funding agency with enough business acumen to get involed and see the project through. I think it was in the first episode that €82k grant was conditional on the appointment of a business development manager - well bang goes the bulk of the €82k FFS.
Anyway I hope it generates enough positive publicity for Seahorse Aquariums to make the latest chapter a profitable and fruitful one. Any aquatic business doing well can only be good for the hobby in general.

i knew of his talent and dedication but after watching this programme kealan has really gone up in my estimation for his dogged determination in facing up against such unfair odds.
looking forward to the final episode and i have already watched the others a few times each.

Quite inspirational though it points out that no matter how good an idea, without a solid business plan it can easily fail fast. You cannot question the dedication, unbelievable.
What gets me is their efforts and winning the conservationist award should have given the lads access to a large international fund for conservation projects, though they might have had to go as far as repopulation of lost wild Seahorse stock rather than a commercial only venture, though it was unique.
Well done Seahorse.

We visited a seahorse farm overseas in early 2005,again,they were farmed for the hobby, but the hugely vast majority were for the Chinese 'medicinal' market.Obviously this reduced the strain on wild populations. We were lucky enough to get a guided tour,on the condition we took no photos or film.It was on a huge scale, much bigger than what we're watching at the moment.Unfortunatley the place has since closed down.Must dig out the video footage, not the best having been filmed with a handycam under a jacket:)
always on the lookout for interesting corys.pm me if you know off any!

High quality production, great interest to non-fishkeepers too, several people in work were talking about it and they wouldn't know a clown fish from a goldfish!

Lmao, here's a loan, pay it back whenever. not banking behaviour at all nor could you and I expect such service from our bank.
Documentary was way too short, and short on Seahorses, otherwise very good. Subject matter was excellent, documantary was not bad.
Wish the guys at Seahorse all the luck in the world for the future.

Brilliant series, really enjoyed both aspects of it, the Seahorse of course, but the whole business end of it was very interesting too.
