Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

That's progress, I suppose...

It's getting to the point where I don't want to read or hear any more bad news but that's like the Ostrich and the Sand scenario, I am reminded by an old saying "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."

Bang goes my chances of ever getting an adult pair of L-046s now!

Ironic, really, the Brazilian government has banned the export of them but has sanctioned the destruction of their habitat.

That is the most effing stupid logic ever John, akin to imposing speed limits to 70 miles per hour and yet a Bugatti Veyron is street legal and can do over 250 miles an hour, what does be in the Heads of Politicians, are they Alien to the rest of us? I was such an Angry man over election time, no matter what argument you directed toward them they still had the stupid answers off pat.

The Ban of exports but the destruction of the environment they inhabit is so ......wish I could curse here.............aaaaaaaagh.

It's more like imposing a 30mph speed limit for safety, but never checking if someone is a drunk unqualified driver so long as they have a 50 euro note in the window.

Like so many really poor attempts at conservation or safety controls or similar, easy overtly publicised 'measures' are a common default especially if the 'measure' can be swayed with a bit of financial hinting.

I think that some policies are so stupid that they are an admission of incompetence and failure to take proper responsibility.
Maybe it is even human nature.....looking at some silly things many people do for 'safety': eg lock all doors and windows at night in case someone gets into the house and murders you, yet most house murders are done by people living in the house anyway, and then we wake up in the morning half blurry eyed and drive down the road at 60mph still half asleep (in our machines design to burst bags of water!!). Yet, still one can say "I've taken all safety precautions to protect myself".
Just don't get me on the 'false' safety reasons why people drive their kids up to the school gates at 50mph. !

Conservation (or attempts to protect a habitat using conflicting logic) are just like some of the stupid reasons why people do things on 'health and safety' grounds.....money, and not looking at a bigger and more realistic picture.

I hope that doesn't sound like a rant.

If you are indeed ranting, rant on because I agree.

Correct. It was a rant, and not something that sounded like one.
