Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Suggestions on what way to change tank

Hey all,

Wondering if you could give me some suggestions on next steps here. As part of doing some work on my house, I dry-lined the inside walls. I lost about 8 cm's internally with the new plastering and the insulation. Which means that my current 240 litre tank now doesn't fit where it used to fit - it's too long.

My tank is a bog standard 240 litre tank. I got it about 5 years ago, cheap and cheerful from Cat Gato (the 240 litre version on here):
cat-gato.com/detail.html?id=56&lang=en&title=Carribean

So I now want to get a 240+ litre tank (I keep Discus) but it will have to be taller and shorter than my current tank of 120cm long and 56 cm high. I can really only go to 110 cm in length - max. The height can be anything there's no problem there. I also don't mind if the front is flat or bow fronted, but I think for

So my questions:

1) Does anyone know of any tank off the shelf tank that is 240+ litres but max only 110cm long?
2) As I'm pretty strapped for cash after doing the work on the house - do any of the shops do a trade-in on my existing tank?
3) How much typically would it cost to get a tank custom built (with a stand) - is it much more expensive than buying an off the shelf tank?

Thanks alot!

Rob

I have a corner that is 1 1/2 inches short for 5 foot tank, I had to settle for 4 footer. Custom tanks are expensive. Did you think about building one yourself, lots of advice on here, and elsewhere, if you went down that road. :)

Thats a great deal - but it's only 180 litres (according to Kev) and unfortunately, as this in going in the house, I need one in Wood finish. Can't do Black!

Thanks for the suggestion though - and again, what a great deal...
