Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Having been inspired by alot of you guys on here and other tanks online Im basically starting from scratch with all my tanks but I still have all my fish in temporary homes..
So after I redecorate the man cave Im gonna start in the new year on my first tank project which is my 240 Litre Fluval Roma World themed tank which will house fish and plants from all continents of the world......
So here goes! Hopefully you guys and others find this interesting....
All tanks, equipment and fish are now temporaily homed in the spare box room

Fluval Roma 240 with black painted background........ (The top framework has been carefully removed to allow the background to be painted right to the top. This eliminates the possibility of light gaps coming through from the rear after the framework is replaced...It takes about 6 coats of acrylic paint to coat the glass properly with sufficient drying time in between each coat..Also it is vital to use good quality rollers (not brushes) and to alternate the direction of rolling on each coat)

Using the tank stand and eggcrate as a template I have began initial hardscape ideas...Dont know if im gonna stick with it though...
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t620/gunner...0143_zpsg9fyenep.jpg
Eggcrate can be cut to sizes to form areas of height instead of piling tonnes of heavy rocks on top of each other (Note the left hand side under the archway...
This is the final initial rockscape idea (Not certain on it yet...Gonna play around with it a bit)
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t620/gunner...0149_zpsroh7kwhv.jpg
The tall rock structure on the right is a plastic realistic hollow rock ornament...This will conceal the intake and out flow pipes of the filter which come up throw the bottom of the tank in the Fluval Roma 240...
The rockscape is photographed in stages so I can remember how to reassemble it once the tank is in place and ready

Night mode (Hopefully much more effective when the tank is filled)

Hopefully this will create a circular flow in the tank and help to avoid deadspots..

If a tank has been empty for a while and dragged around a bit its a good idea to retest water tightness...Sometimes when a tank has been empty for a period and moved around silicone seals can fail...Better to be safe than sorry...24 hours will be enough to prove its still water tight...
The air wall/curtain also got tested to make sure it was producing enough air before its buried under the sand bed...Sometimes they need additional holes poked in them...Also sometimes the end connections leak too much air resulting in one big air bubble and no wall of air (Silicone around the end connections counteracts this)
