Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hiya guys n gals, im new to the ITFS Forums and just wanted to say hi to all you fish owners out there!!

Tell use a lil about myself while im writing, i've been keeping fish for the last 6-7 years and currently own a 14" Astronotus Ocellatus and a 15" Polypterus Ornatipinnis! I am currently thinking about buying another large tank so i can maybe keep some Dovii/Jags or Freddy!! If use wana tell me a lil about yourselves, feel free to describe your current fish stock!

Now, I'm on the look out for a 8 foot long tank as a minimum, has anybody seen one around and know how much were talking to buy it? If not, would anybody know where i could go to purchase a tank this size and how much it would possibly cost to get it made?

If theres any custom tank builders reading, please quote me a price here as im really interested in buying one?!

Thanks, Steveo.

Id like something in the region of 8 foot long, 2.5 foot wide and 2.5 foot high! The width and height can be a little smaller if needed but i'd want a tank atleast 8 foot long?!

Thanks, Steveo.

Im looking into making a plywood tank now because the price of getting an 8' tank made is to dear for me! Although . . . . .

Is there any one out there who could make a tank for me if i get the glass for them? I can get glass myself but need someone with the skill to put it together! How much would that cost?

Thanks, Steveo

Seen a plywood tank on one of the sites and looked impressive when finished but works out quite expensive to built, specail ply, rubber sealant etc.You might be better of trying getting a standard glass tank or even trying to get it made in the uk and ship it across, it would probably work out cheaper than getting it made over here.

Keep a cichlid tank myself with a mix of mbuma fish, its a 240 litre tank, also have a fluval edge 23 litre with a betta, neon and platties.

best of luck with you search hope you get sorted.
