Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

where to get high end tanks?

hiya

edited this as it was looking like a "wanted" ad

i have a planted tank on my kitchen counter
and while i have had high and lows with it,
the tank itself has always been a bit scaldy,
its a clearseal bog standard with braces and thin glass,
sloppy silconed corners,

what are my options for a seamless, rimless and all that?
i seem to recall the betta tanks having those
lovely jointless radiused corners,

is this a mail order? order from the lfs?
can i get a nice tank alone? (no stand, no hood)

i have never looked into this so I am just trying
to get an idea on what this might cost,
even a few brand names of tanks would help
and i will go searching,

the tank would be 36 x 15 x 15" max

I have a couple of Aquatlantis tanks and am very happy with them. The build quality and design is better than most of the stuff you see around. My wife stipulated that any tanks in the house must also be decent looking in the furniture deparatment and these fitted the bill.

Petstop in Blanchardstown stock them.

I agree, the best looking, built, style and quality tank I have owned, I've never worried about them splitting or cracking.

I heard a rumour they are not going to supply anyone outside of mainland europe in the future....true or false?

Didn't hear that, but then I haven't been on the market for a tank for a couple of years.

cheers for the feedback guys

on those aqualantis tanks...

they seem to have black silcone joints at a glance
are any of them with clear silicone?

i only want a tank, no stand, no hood, nothing!
so the glass itself is my focus rather than
the whole package (thought they do look nice!)

thanks

cheers paul

i've put a few feelers out
and it seams that those seamless tanks
are not an impossiblity and can be made to spec here in ireland

i have asked about regular cornered optiwhite tanks as well

those betta tanks tend to be very tall and not so deep (front to back)
and i really want a same height, same depth tank

we will see what the prices are like

regards

if you give peter or gavin a ring they'll remember it straight away, they had an awful job to carry it in,nowhere to grip it,you'll find their number in the sponsors section

sorry about that 4, have you looked at the clearseal website, try the panatopic or the trophy tanks

thanks paddy

never noticed those models, thanks

the trophy is out there!! not for me!

the panaoptic is the style im talking about all right
but there is a trend for those seamless tanks that they are all fairly tall
(i know nothing about marines but these tanks seem
to be geared at marine set-ups, are marine tanks taller in general?

the tank im after would be an odd size
as i want it as deep as it is tall 36 x 15 x 15
so im getting prices
