Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Anyone using a freshwater Nano tank

So having seen Nozebleeds fine attempt at the marine side of things, Im wondering have many of you tried some freshwater nano tanks. They seem to be the "in thing" right now in the fishkeeping world. Of course the smaller volume means its harder to maintain the parameters, however they seem to work from what Ive seen of them. Ive always thought they would make a nice shrimp tank but I know smaller fish work in some of these tanks but of course the choice is limited.

So has anyone gotten some pics of their nano's and the inhabitants?

Gavin

I have a D&D nano fresh setup, 2 Ancistrus live there quite happily, this tank's rear is pretty much a sump packed with bioballs peat and foam using a return pump. Has nice leds for grreat night time watching of the pair up to shinanigans at night.

I've gone through a few nanos.

This is the first I did a couple of years ago... very primative!

Which recently morphed into this...

I also had this one...

Since I moved I only have this setup. It's not stictly a tank but I suppose as paludariums go it is a nano! There is only about 5 litres of water in it. :woohoo: :woohoo:

I put 2 Killies in there today... Didn't write down the name so now I forgot it  Platty252? Xeon? Help me out here!

I love nanos nearly as much as I like big tanks as you can have lots of them in a small space and so much variation from shellies to plants to marine! B)
I have got a real kick out of doing this nano paludarium and I think I will keep it for a long time to see how it matures.

They are aphyosemion bitaeniatum wolfsburg. They seem at home already, throw some moss in there, I'll say you will see some fry soon.

Currently all the moss is above the water level! I'll get some barberi or something tomorrow... I wouldn't hold out much hope though... I couldn't even get head lice to breed! :P

:))
Just get lots of moss in there. I will order some more clown killies in again as they do not eat their fry. I had them before in a nano and they were more every few months. I still have a female left at home, you are welcome to it if you are willing to collect.

Thanks man! Very kind. I haven't really got anywhere for it at the minute but I will set up another couple of tanks in the next few weeks... I wouldn't mind a trip to see your "breeding factory" sometime though!

Anyone got anymore nano pictures???
