Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Keeping Moor wood down?

Alright lads, does anyone have any tips on how to keep Redmoor wood down in a tank? i have some in a tank roughly 1 year now and it still has not sunk, and i have recently bought 3 more nice bits and they seem to be the same.
Now up till now it hasn't really bothered me,especially now as it's in a tank out in the shed and i dont really care that it looks crap wedged into a filter or corner of glass or with a rock sitting on top of it but now i'm going to use it in a display tank in the house,so the looking crap options are out.
I have tried the boiling and drilling small holes options in the past but they did nothing so the only other way i can think of keeping it down is putting some slate on the bottom of the tank and glueing them to it but i really don't want to go down this road as it's kind of final and leaves no room for changing things around a bit.
It's an open top tank so i haven't even a hood to help me out but as it's a popular enough wood,i know someone has sussed a way to keep it down without the wedging, glueing etc.,i just can't find who or how!!

Any suggestions very welcome as i'm hoping to get this tank up and running in the next week or so,cheers

Ger

Hey,
If you buy sucktion cup (Selicon sticking thing that stick with glass) and screw it on the one side and stick on the glass and it will be giving feel like sink of the wood

You could tie a piece of slate to the base of the wood and cover the slate with substrate

Thanks for the reply's lads, yeh tying the wood to the slate seems the way to do it alright seamus, actually seems quite simple to do aswell 'now' ha......Beautiful wood that Redmoor wood but so light and almost impossible to saturate it's a nightmare to keep down on it's own.
Thanks again lads,appreciate it.
