Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Tanks Build

Hi

I currently have two tanks
1. A 180L Juwel Vision and
2. A 240L Clearseal Tank

They are not very organised, as they are in the way of a few things and in different parts of the house. I was thinking of building two from scratch and a frame to fit but having them side to side with a black out in between.

I found a place where i could but the frame and also allows me to build 2 350L Tanks

This is the place where i have decided to put them

I am still investigating into putting dimmer switches onto each lighting unit as i am going to keep piranhas in one and this would do great with them.

I have drawn up on SolidWorks what i hope to have the tanks and frame to look like including shelf's for external filter and all accessories for the tanks.

The Glass is ordered and will have on Wednesday, all cut to size and today's task will be to get Sealant to stick the tanks

Will keep people posted with pictures if interested on how it goes

Thanks

G

There's a guy here and on adverts,Bart is his name
He has the right silicon for the job
Also he makes tanks at a very reasonable price.
He broke down two big tanks and resealed them both
Tested and ready to go in a week for 60 euro

Fair play to yeh for building your own tanks Garreth,i hope they work out for yeh.

Also i'm just wondering by looking at the other photo will you be putting the tanks down beside the garage door? If so your heaters could be going around the clock trying to keep the water up to temperature now the cold weather is on the way, that's assuming they will be Tropical set up's of course.

Ger

I think you might need to move the treadmill :woohoo: :woohoo:

Looks like he is going to generate power by running on the Treadmill, way to go.... I like your sketch, really neat.

H.

The Glass is always greener on the other side.

It's NOT "Chee lick", NOT "Chee Chee Licks"!!! Cichlids is pronounced as "Sick Lids"!!!!!

Another update on how tanks are going :silly:

over the weekend the table for the tanks arrived and i tested each tank full of water

I added more plugs to the wall to avoid the use of extension leads

I then went out yesterday and bought two new JBL e1501 External filters which i hooked up to one last night

just a question, how and what would be the best way of transferring gravel and fish from other tanks into the new tanks

Thanks

I would put fish into container/spare tank/bucket containing water from old tank, scoop out gravel and place in new tank. I would then fill new tank with water from old tank and top up with fresh dechlorinated water. Transfer media from old filter into new filter and add fish.

One observation. I would be concerned about the number of sockets you've added. Definitely safer than extension leads but its a big load on the circuit if you have 12 things plugged in and running at the same time. I would get it checked to be on the safe side. :)

Im pretty sure the the plugs/sockets are ok have been running my smaller tanks off half of the sockets and one of the new tanks

So basically there all running two days without any fail
