Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Tank is 6 foot long and the biggest is about 4.5 inches. They are slow growers but can get to 10 inches

Check out this bad boy.

They are fine at the moment in yer tank. Plenty of water changes and good quality food tio grow them on. I am feeding all me haps with flake, hap pellets, cichlid pellets, NLS, pond sticks and occassional treat of prawns.

Any ideas what else are going into yer tank? :)

I keep a pair in my african setup and I wouldnt be without them in any similar setup. Fantastic fish, with great colour, my male tends to police the tank. I feed them NLS pellets. They require a bit of space and I removed a lot of rock from my own tank to accommodate them. I keep them in a 5' tank with other haps that will reach a similar size so I will be needing an upgrade in the future but no great rush. You might see better growth on them if you dont keep them with any mbuna as they relish high protein food that the mbuna cant handle. I think Mick might have tried that? Best of luck with them if you decide you want to try them out.

Yer right there Jay i removed all me mbuna to concentrate on growin on the haps and peacocks. Also the finnage problems from nipping. The mbuna are very active and are pros when it came to feeding so even to compete with the food that was going into the tank was a hassle for the haps and peacocks. They can be mixed successfully but i made the choice to separate the two genus.

haps are probably best kept away from the bigger herbivore mbuna but it should be ok to keep the smaller carnivores such as careleus or cyno afra. careleus always look better and are happier when kept with the less boistrois haps.

@mick, send me the link for that new forum.

I have a yellow lab,
2 blue dwarfs
1 blue johanni
1 albino (not sure what he is)
They all seem to be getting on like a house on fire at the moment!!
I had 2 hornet cichlids but was ill informed about them,it was only when i checked them out online I realised the damaged they could do so I removed them and took them to a pet shop in cork city.
A nice guy in there swapped them for me and helped me out so I will be supporting him in future.
Im not origanally from Ireland so I was lucky to stumble upon this shop!!I will not be going back to the shop that sold me the two hornet cichlids again, still you live and learn :)
