Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

i just thought i'd add to this post when i saw it ..... i was in the same shop myself last weekend and infact drove all the way up from limerick to see it ..... i would have to disagree with you john .....i could not possibly fault what i saw when i was up there ..

now don't get me wrong , obviously things have changed since i was there but when shops such as this , use sump filters to feed a bank of maybe 6 or 8 tanks then these things will happen .... in exactly the same way they can happen in anyone's own home tank

i found the staff there on the day to be both helpful and knowlegeable ( thats not the right spelling )

my own personal verdict on this shop would have to be a 9/10

they loose 1 point cos they aint situated closer to me in limerick .

just my opinions by the way .... and obviously not questioning wot you experienced yourself

We have been down this road before of commenting or rating shops and it causes all sorts of problems, a case in point here where one member rates the shop 3/10 and another 9/10. It depends when you visit, what you see etc etc. For that reason critizing shopes in public is not permitted.

The thread title and the location details of the posts have been edited to remove specific location information.

Suggestion is to raise any issues with the shop owner / manager and vote with your feet.

What about the shops right to reply?

I was in a new shop recently, where the three staff had just been trained by the "expert" from another branch. I went in on Monday morning, and the "fishy" staff were cleaning out snails from one bank of tanks, they were covered in snails! The next bank of tanks were not moving, all the fish were dead, they had put some treatment into the wrong sump and had not noticed. I was just about to say it when the Manager came in and basically had a fit. He apologized and said he would have to close the store for a couple of hours!

i happen to work in that pet shop john im not in charge if the fish section but i do work in it from time to time i am the only person who works there on this forum, i work in every part of the shop (cept dogs) so im gonna stick up for us!:)

i think its way out of order you saying what you said

sure its fine you sayin you seen sick fish that happens

but for you to say we were selling them is b*llsh*t!

did you see someone sellin one?!

i know for a fact we did not sell 1 of those fish

those fish were all being treated for the illnesses

NOT BEING SOLD

If you're going to be crazy, you have to get paid for it or else you're going to be locked up.

And this is exactly the reason why criticizing shops on forum is not permitted
IMO this thread should be closed; it’s not going to help anyone with fish keeping :(

I'd like to comment on this if I may.. I know of the store you've mentioned in your post and I must say that off late the fish area has kind of faded away. It was once filled with alot of great quality fish with a great selection of fish in particular their marine and cichlids sections. Not sure whats caused this I see a lot of new staff in the area maybe they need to find their feet again or it could be down to stock availability who knows.

With regard to the staff I have always found them 100% willing to help and share their knowledge on what ever pet you had in mind. As a regular customer I have no complaints. I even had an occasion where I bought a tank and the light unit failed.. I came back in with the light unit some months later to see if I could have it replaced even thou I couldn't find the receipt they replaced the unit.Which i think went above and beyond the expected norm when dealing with a retailer.

This thread will now be locked.

The original poster requested their original post be removed, on the basis there were so many replies, I thought that would be unfair to people that had contributed to the thread. Unfortunately now the original poster has blanked the original thread so it makes no sense to leave this thread running.

The lesson from this is slagging off shops is not permitted on this forum.
