Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Your tropheus are herbivore and a spirulina flake will do for them,BUT your frontosa is a carnivore and needs more than just spirulina to thrive.I suggest New life spectrum, that will do all your tangs and keep them happy and thriving.

PM sent.

If you're going to be crazy, you have to get paid for it or else you're going to be locked up.

i lost a couple of bemba already to bloat from nls, i use the spirilina the frontosa's and other fish frozen food to make up the difference, although the tropheus do like to have a pick at the frozen food too. i already know all this as i'm not new to fish!! ;) nls is great but it's very high in animal protein, i had to make the choice of changing to herbivore flakes or risk losin more tropheus. they have been on the current diet for about a month now and not a loss in the tropheus and the other species in the tank are all really active and healthy.

i got it on kiliney beach steve, left it in tubs of water to leach any badness out for about 4-5 weeks, water in the tap is always 7, the rock brings it up to 8.3. more natural looking than ocean rock!!

thanks for the comments
Gar

Looks good - I'm surprised your Frontosa hasn't eaten the shelldwellers, they must be too fast for him!

lol not yet patrick, to be honest i can't get over how verything is so calm in there, the tropheus all zoom around together. there are 3 shellies 2 males one female, one pair stay really close to the shell, the female only ever sticks her head out like in the photo. the other male actually hangs out around the frontosa's spot and i haven't seen the front chase or go neasr him at all. i am feeding small amounts really often and it seems to be working great, i feed once in the morning and then 2-3 times over the course of the evening. oh i must get some pics of the labidochromis, the group of 6 has now turned into a group of 18 and 2 females holding again. there in the mothers house. she'll be setting up as a breeder soon lol

hey stan, i had these fish in a rio 180 with coral sand and ocean rock and a diy 3d background, it looked nice but not what i wanted it to be, when i knew i was going to be moving them into the big tank i decided to do it this way, happened to be looking on the net and got the poly resin background for €50,

as for the fish and behaviour, it could be from volume rather than decor but the tropheus are really active and the frontosa's are out alot more and more majestic looking

I don't think you lost your bemba to bloat from feeding NLS,feeding 2 or 3 times a day doesn't help things.I'm currently keeping and breeding 7 varieties of Tropheus, all fed on NLS and spirulina flake for 20 months now with no losses through bloat.
