Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

in the new year im hoping to rescape malawi tank.at the moment its ocean rock with usual coral sand. for some reason im getting bored of the way it looks. im contemplating setting it someway along the lines of the malawi intermeddiatte zone so basically its gonna have some large river rocks built up on either end with a open patch of sand in the middle and more than liely some vallis scattered at the back.

ive had a scout around the net at various tanks but havent found something i would like to base it on.

so if anyone has any tips or ideas i would love to hear them or if anyone has links to tanks similar to what i described i would be grateful if they would post them

cheers

stan

have the tank already its just a case of re designing it.

gar had a look through different forums and i didnt know that malawi biotope aquariums had big bright red and blue fake corals:laugh:
its unreal what some people put in tanks and think its amazing looking
found some potential ideas that i might try and structure it around something like these
www.lakemalawi.co.uk/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=85&t=9823

but use sand instead of gravel and have the rocks piled high. i like the randomness of the rocks.

and this

i wont have a background bar a black sheet but i like the way this set up still allows for space in the at the front centre

must ring the bank manager and see if aquarium background can be included under a loan for home improvements.

i had thought about getting one of aquaterra backgrounds but the cost and the amount of space they took up put me off.
super tank though

the last one on this page would be my ideal set up with a few more rocks on either side

there some nice backgrounds, it is really such a pain that they are so expensive, have you thought about a diy background?

think i finally found the type of set up i want,
the only things i might change would be more rocks and bulit up higher and not that much vallis. the two threads are well worth the read. its either that or a complete change to the the tangs cichlids
what ya think people??

The link was acting up for me earlier. I had to click a few times before it would work. Try goin to the cichlid forum and in the search engine put 400 gallon wild tangaykian or israel. If you type in israel it's the 4th or 5th topic
