Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Any advice? Will the 1200 be enough for a heavily stocked tank? I do have a small internal filter (600lph) I can use also but would rather leave the internals out. Cheers.

have you had a look at the JBL e1500?
As you're saying you are going to stock a lot of fish,I'd suggest this filter and also a power head or two for water circulation and/or else a good air pump.
Don't have the dimensions of the filter right now but I could tell you in the morning if that's any good to you.

I'm currently setting up a mbuna tank. It's a 300 litre Juwel. I had a fluval 305 up until yesterday which I was planning to supplement with another external. However, last night the little primer stick snapped as I was priming it - the water came gushing out of the little hole about as violently as the curse words came out of my mouth. I wasn't using excessive force, it's a design flaw - a skinny little bendy stick with a two inch plunger attached. Anyway, now I need to find a replacement. I'm planning on stocking the tank pretty well - 30/40 fish, so it will need good filtration. I'm thinking of a Tetratec EX 1200. I've had two Tetratecs and have had no problems with them, the Eheim's are tempting but expensive. The cannister needs to fit inside the cabinet, so has to be less than 30cms in width, that and money are the only restrictions.
Any advice? Will the 1200 be enough for a heavily stocked tank? I do have a small internal filter (600lph) I can use also but would rather leave the internals out. Cheers.

This is an ad from a Forum sponsor - fully paid-up Club (but not Forum) members can receive a discount on their Eheim Filters etc. too.
I recently bought some Eheim parts from them and received an excellent service.

You can adjust the flow so it would be suitable for younger fish and you can turn it up to full power as they grow.
