Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Whats the best food was created by tteknulp (tteknulp)
I am looking for the Best staple food for my Bolivian rams,

i currently give them shrimp cubes ,eartworms, spiriluna flakes

alot people seems to think New spectrum formula is best ?
but which one is best as there are so many types ?
cichlid or community type for example and hard to get?
Rams can be finicky eaters at times

Someone else told me Discus Bio-gold was good

Your help would be great:huh:

Personally I haven't found the Bolivian Rams to be particularly fussy eaters - nor the tank-bred so-called 'Blue' Rams, although I have sometimes found Wild ones to be a little more 'finicky'.

I think what you are giving them, if they are eating the foods well enough, would form a pretty balanced diet. The Discus food you mention should be OK too but I cannot comment on the NLS foods as I have never used them.

I do, however, use Tetra Prima and find this very good.

Hi,

Personally I don't know which product is the best. I've been using Tetra Pro for the last year or so and it's working very well for my community fish. Was is the USA last Nov and picked up some NLS for 1/3 of the price they are selling for here, but have yet to open. Just waiting for the Tetra food to run out first. I will inform then, but I am of the mind 'if it's not broken, don't fix it.'

I feed Nls all my different fish.Very happy with the food.Price in Ireland way to high but there are a lot of ways to get it cheaper. All the Nls formulas are pretty the same - all what varies in them is the protein content.I use for my Tangs and Malawis Nls Thera A formula(higher protein, extra garlic). The garlic is a natural boost against parasites.I think there are a lot of good foods on the market and it is down to personal preference. It doesnt matter which brand you go for,I always would use the pellet form of it.(less pollution of your water and less nutrition loss for the fish).

New Era food and new life spectrum hands down. Tried loads of different food over the years.Even the fussiest of fish seem to take to it. We had this fish (neolamprologus nkambe) a while ago when i was working in a shop, they are supposed to be really tricky to feed. Gluped it down and wouldn't eat anything else...same with wild tefe discus. keeps the colour in..added to the fact that it has garlic in it that acts as and antiparasitic agent (there are no real scientific studies done on why this works as yet) but I found newly acclimated fish do better on it than any other food. I have rams in a fluval edge for over a year and they a doing great.m2 cents.

dont make me come over there.
