Tropheus "Orange" Bemba Community Tank
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Dont post much on here but sorry Roe, having read this thread I have to say you must be stone mad to add 10 tropheus to a week old tank special blend or not, I used it before on my first tank and found not that great, as Dubfish said your best way of Cycling a tank quickly is to get squeezings off an already cycled tank, The first and only time i used special blend, like you i got all the right readings initially but ended up with spike after spike of both Ammonia and Nirite mind you the ph levels were constant, but think that was down to me , Lost a lot of fish over a month period due to the spikes,
Got Squeezings off a board member and my tank settled within 3 days, Also the reason i say your stone mad is theres a lot cheaper fish out there to cycle your tank if you had of posted up your intention to go with tangs I would have given you some Tropheus moorii hybrids for free, Going with 10 Bembas to cycle a tank is a very expensive risk,

Normally I wouldnt put fish in so soon but based on the advice given by Gavin I am where I am. Checked the ammonia again this morning and all seems fine.
It was a risk but I took advice from a well respected person on here. Its not as if I did it for the sake of doing it or cause I thought I knew better than every one else

there is just different way of doing things, not just one way,one persons bad experience with a product does not a bad product make! as long as you keep up with the directions spirulina diet and water changes you will be grand.I cycled our display which is full of topheus this way 2 months ago and they are breeding in there as we type.
ho hum.

Not saying it dosent work Gavin, Im saying using 10 bemba is a bit reckless, lets just agree to disagree cause this could go on and on,
Very impressed with the shop by the way, would expect as word of mouth spreads your gonna be rushed off your feet

so it looks like they have white spot. Some of them seem to have small white spots on their body. Some dont.
I'm gona raise the temp in the tank. Anything else I can do?

Get yourself some "eSHa exit" and read the instructions and treat the tank .You can raise the temp for 2 or 3 days to 28 and reduce it back to 24-26 when you see the white spot is gone.

hi roealdo
its unlikely to be whitespot as tropheus and african cichlids are rarely infected with this parasite. it could be sand particles as trophs have rough skin.
dont raise temp too much as these fish are intolerant of low oxygen. just ensure ph is above 7.5 and add the esha or protozin as a precaution if worried.
30 tanks specialise in african cichlids, angelfish and various catfish
