Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi there

I was wondering could anyone help me. I have had quite a nice set up for some time with my tank but I'm moving house and there is no room for my tank :( Could anyone help me with a guide on asking prices for my fish and tank :(

The Tank
Juwel Vision 260 running with Eheim E3 external filter.
All the usual, heater, airstones, lights (including blue LED lights)
Fake and real rock working and coral sand
Black stand

The Fish
Male and female Frontosa 4-4.5"
10 well established Tropheus Bemba colony 4-5"
6 breeding Demansoni group inc 2 juve up to 3"
4 Caeruelus type malawi 4-5"
1 Black Calvus 3"

1 Erupterus Synodontis 7"
1 nebulosus Syno 7"
1 Hybrid Syno 5"
1 unknown yellowish syno 5" like a multi punctatus
2 Petricola synos 2"

1 Golden Nugget Pleco 4"
1 Tiger Pleco 3-4"

No idea what sort of price to put these fish at as I never intended for them to be sold on

Hope someone can guide me in the right direction.

As a buyer, I've bought a good few tanks from folks on here over the last couple of months. For tanks with cabinets, hood, lights , external filter it's been averaging one euro per litre in size. You can probably get a bit more, 300 or better, but don't be surprised if you don't as the forum and the likes of gumtree are full of tanks for sale. Given how expensive these setups are brand new, the second-hand price really doesn't hold up!

Best of luck selling and hopefully you'll be able to find space again for a tank in the future.

looking for advice? DON'T MOVE.

is this spouse or partner related?, because if it is i'l scream as there is far to much of that carry on in this hobby

good luck selling, the market can be fairly slow and a lot of meanies out there that will haggle and drain the last drop of the hobby out of you, very demoralising to let your dream go for so little. is there no way at all you could bring it

Check out the angling section, it is fantastic

The tank and bits are €400 matey, and well worth it if no scratches ect on tank or damage to cabinet.

Shame you have to pack it in for a while mate. Look, at the end of the day, what you are offered is what it is worth. The market is full of tanks now, going for next to nothing given the prices brand new. Be realistic in what you are willing to let it go for or be prepared to sit on it for a while. Best of luck with the sale bro. Im pretty sure you wont be long moving the livestock anyway.

Hey sorry to hear you have to strip down your tank and sell every thing,You would probably had to move on the Frontosa and Tropheus eventually as 260L is way to small for them long term as male fronts can grow to 1 foot.Best of luck with the sale, try post a few pics of tank and fish;) .

Regards Alan..
