Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I'm not much of a Malawi person myself, preferring South American Cichlids but have to admit a sneaking admiration for 'non-manufactured' Aulonacaras - nice bold fish with character.

@ mick, mbembe deep came into the hobby a few years ago with other species such as msobo, polit, and flavus.
all are dwarfs (3 to 4 inch), extremely aggressive and beautiful when mature.
it is their extreme agression combined with average juvenile colour which has prevented them becoming mainstays in the hobby and has kept them rare. the similarly tough dwarves such as demasoni have the advantage of brilliant juvenile colour which has kept them current in the hobby.
a few species i would recommend are the fantastic and peaceable but very hard to get "lethrinops red cap itungi" and two large non territorial melanochromis species northern blue and robustus.
would agree with john re pure aulonacara species but it is very hard nowadays to get good specimens. i am currently growing on a group of stuartgranti ngara rock which are reputed to be f1 stock but only time will tell as it is only the vendors word and they were purchased at half inch size without seeing the parents. still they look promising with nice clean straight barring and one male is starting to colour nicely.

othopharynx lithobates sulphur head
labidochromis chisumulae
pseudotropheus flavus
pseudotropheus saulosi
pseudotropheus red top ndumbi
These are a top five

however I could do a few more top fives
After see that Metriaclima zebra gold Charo above I think that could easily get into my top five. Fantastic looking fish that I have not come across before.
Now for the important question , Has anyone got some fry they want to sell on?

Favourite Malawi....too many to choose from. But I guess I'll go for the ones that I have special memories of.
First up...
Melanochromis auratus..the Golden Lake Nyasa cichlid. Stunning cichlids, and my first ever Malawi cichlid (they were still being called Lake Nyasa Cichlids then as well). Superb colouration....but got pooh poohed by many for being 'old hat'...but still one of my favs.
Cyrtocara moorii (and one of my all time fav fish) and it looks cute (yep, I did say Cute)
Iodotropheus sprengerae. Fantastic colouration for a Malawi Cichlid.
Aulonocara jacobfreibergi. First saw one in the TFH supplement, and its picture stuck in my mind.
Melanochromis Johanni... the fenestrated locales.
Melanochromis chipokae...mega, and that could show people what a Mbuna should be. !!!
