Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

This is an Asian pair that i got from seahorse a week ago, took me 5 month to get them.
As for now they laid eggs twice and the first spawn was eaten, so no fry for now. I am planning to breed them properly but i have to set up a breeding tank first ^^
Thanks, Inza.

I can see they are Asian, they look slightly different... How big are they? Did you order them as a pair from Seahorse, or how did you do it?
Good luck with breeding mate!

Thanks

How do you see they are Asian please ?
The 2 big male are about 18cm head to tail. I did not intend to order a pair i wanted an alenquer, a blue pigeon, a white butterfly and a marlboro but they couldn't get theme so a got a pair of blue pigeon and a pair of red melon !
I have never breed any fish before they just lay eggs and i hope for the best ! out of the 3 pair i now have it is the first time the red melon lay eggs and the second for the blue pigeon. Regarding the pair of snakeskin, the fry manage to get to the free swimming stage before getting lost/eaten.
I am currently researching on how to breed theme correctly in a proper tank and will try it when my finance allow me to invest in a breeding tank. Any recommendations are welcome (specially regarding filtration) !
Thank you !

They look slightly different than European (Stendker), shape, colour, head... Also, they have thinner stripes, more like veins, Stendker have ticker lines and usually red face too. I think Asian discus is not called blue pigeon, even it's nearly the same fish, I think ( I'm not sure about this!) that they were not aloud to use the same name, so they call them differently, I think

Anyway, Lovely pair!

I would be interested in buying some fry, if you menage to raise them in Irish water

When it comes to filtration, it's very simple, all you need is a sponge and air pump, nothing else. They also need to be moved to their own tank, so the fry doesn't get eaten by other fish...
If you have any questions, just ask, I would be happy to help, if I can

Good luck with breeding and keep us posted

Thanks
Sina

the pair you get is really awsome!
If you are trying to breed them, the first rule is keep the breed tank as clean as you can, daily clean is almost mandatory to remove all the wastes. Regarding filtration, as it was said above, sponge filter are the most used. You can use canister filter, but you are on risk that the fry will be sucked.
The second rule is stability on the water parameters.
A tip, a change of water slightly colder than water tank, and a little bit mor soft and acidid promotes the spawning. That it is becauseyou are emulating the rainy station, when the discus spawn.
