Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

The rock (ocean rock) will increase the pH and not let you bring the pH down to a desirable lever for Discus.
As mentioned above replace with bog wood from your LFS.

Best sand i found is in Maidenhead in Carlow, bogwood any LFS would have, fine grain gravel would be ok if its the round one not the sharp one. Sorry mate for the short/blunt answers, i just finished rescaping the 6' tank thats in the left side on my signature and i'm nackeredwhere do i get the sand and the bog wood? would fine grain gravel do?

as aruba has said, get sand and bogwood in your LFS. I would say one of those fish is either a runt or is on his way out.
questions
1. what is the pH of your water
2. how frequent do you do water changes ?
3. do you use water straight from the tap?
4. what temp is your aquarium
5. what are you feeding them ?
I Constantly fight to keep the ph to where it is now where its about 6.8 to 7.0, the water changes are 10% a week brokin down to 5% Wed and 5% sun, I do use water from the tap but i also use tapsafe, The Temp is currently at 28C and im feeding them a flake discus food in the morning and blood worms with a tiny drop of garlic guard.
Now whats this about a "runt"? i am new to this discus mix and i will gladly listen to all, but would you please explain the runt thing? do u mean a Cross breed? a hybrid?

you could do with changing more of your water.
runt is a fish tank will never fully grow. A good way to judge discus is by the size of their eyes compared to their body. So if you see a small and a large discus with the same size eyes, then the small one could be a runt..
