Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi all,

Its great to be back...!!!

Ill be picking up my betta 1300 tank in a few weeks and ill be setting it up kinda like my old rio 400.

Im going down big community tank route again, and my main fish are gonna be some rare and unusal Apistogramma.

Considering ill have such and big tank im planning on have 3 different types of apistos, the idea is 1 male and 2-3 females of each. I know i could be pushing it a little with the amount of different females but the tank will be well broken up and have alot of different areas in it for hiding with caves over hangs etc.

Also ill have a huge bunch of shoaling fish maybe even two shoals, maybe rummies but would like something a liitle different any ideas.......?

Would love to get a nice L number plec something the will stay quite small no bigger then 8" again ideas....?

I also ill be getting some corys again :cheer: big bunch of them and again different types

Would love to add some more SA cichilds but would i be pushing it with the amount of Apistos i have in the tank...? And could anyone recommend some ...?

Not sure if ill run co2 yet, but ill have 4 T5's running on the tank. The tank has a sump on it so all equipment will be out of view.

Any ideas you have lets us know please

Alan

my 2 cents hope it helps

I would suggest just one species of cory.I know its hard, with all the species avaiable today, but I have mixed tanks, and personally think a large shoal of one species looks a hell of a lot better.

always on the lookout for interesting corys.pm me if you know off any!

I got hold of two L183 Plecos, Starlights or Ancistrus dolichopterus, stay small and are easy to maintain.

all the sa cichlids up there should be fine, they are all generally peaceful, but as with any fish you could get a rogue, just have a few hidy holes and they should be fine

Yes, they are a totally amicable L number, they leave everything alone, mine share the 150 Liter with 5 or 6 Apistos, Dwarf Pygmys corys and Cardinals. oh oh and a myriad of Shrimp!.

I love festivums, but they will decimate any smaller fish, and plants will be ripped up and probably shredded.
I expect some will reply this is not true,in their experience, but both I and friends have experienced it.
