Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hello there,
Just to keep you updated as to what we are doing up at Av.Recently we have embarked on a program to breed and raise as many fish species as we can.So far things are going well its getting to the stage that we have so many fry we are in danger of having no room for other stocks which is amasing considering we have 0ver 450 tropical tanks as it stands.
I originally started my business through raising our own fish stocks...15yrs ago...wow long time ..long time.Any ways at the moment we have japanese koi fry, goldfish fry, wild red bellied piranha fry which i believe is a first for this country if im not mistaken especially on a commercial level, blue ram fry, convict fry, several varieties of angelfish fry, green terror fry, lots of livebearers such as mollies and guppys.
At the moment we have set up a breeding program for denissoni barbs....this is a challenge i look forward to.We have 24 sub adults in a 3000litre heated pond so i will enjoy watching their progress.....
Any way i will keep you all up dated on our progress....you are welcome to call up and see what we are doing...
cheers guys...

Nice one Ian, I was up there at the weekend & it was great to see all of the species you're breeding.

Will be interested to see how you get on with the barbs.

brilliant Ian. i'd say it is creating a buzz up there. wat else can you do when people are not spending like they used to. it's better than sitting scratching your arse. i was in a shop that was "moaning" that they were "struggling". yet weeks later the tanks are filthy, fish were dead in tanks. they didn't know their stock, rummynoses were milky white noses, and a lot of black algae, signs of bad conditions. and they were all outside sitting on their arses laughing. everyones job is on the line and they cant take a couple of hours out of their working day to actually do their job, it would make you sick. there is people out there that would scrub tanks all day long yet these people insist on running their business into the ground.

well done on the project i hope it works out well and is the start of better things to come

Check out the angling section, it is fantastic
