Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hello everyone,

I would just like to announce that after a lot of hard work. Aquatic Village is the new Irish agent for Stuart M Grant Wild Malawi cichlids. So very soon we will be importing genuine wild bloodlines direct from the lake to our fish house.

For people really into their malawis this has to be great news....

:)

Wow....i take it by the fact that this post seems to have slipped by that there are few people here who know who Stuart M Grant was.....that is a bit disturbing.....if you get the chance google his name.....this guy is the godfather of malawi cichlids and his fish are famous all over the world and very very exclusive.......

Is there no passion left in the world?

Are there any fish keepers actually out there?

I am beginning to wonder.....

Good stuff, how many independently owned Aquatic retailers remain in Ireland?

Kev.

The Glass is always greener on the other side.

It's NOT "Chee lick", NOT "Chee Chee Licks"!!! Cichlids is pronounced as "Sick Lids"!!!!!

Its a bit frightening that this post has only had a few views and one reply........is there somet5hing wrong with the folks out there, does no one care if most of the shops are gone? Is this the level of fish keeping that is the new Ireland. You will be surrounded by chain stores and the only things you will buy are guppies and angels.......when i look at the recent posts.......it depresses me. You guys would swap two grains of gravel and talk about gouramis.......there is a world out there........these forums should be promoting the hobby.......this forum is dissecting it....piece by piece......my self and seahorse are the only two shops left out of many........as you said Kev.......am i the only one that finds that abysmal...goin through the door of a shop and talking face to face is fish keeping......and yet again instead of embracing the problem i will probably get the usual tirade thrown back in my face......i think it is a crying shame.......there is a mean spirited feeling in the hobby and I for one am glad we have managed to keep it out of Aquatic Village.....read our reviews on our facebook page.......we get happy people who love to talk and poke around and share their experiences....to me human contact is the hobby......and I am glad we have such a dedicated following........

I really enjoyed our chat the other day Kev it was a pleasure seeing you again...and Simon.........call up any day I will give you as much free Daphina as you need.......you won't find that kind of service in a chain store.....

Enough said it depresses me....

I am off to talk about real fishkeeping....

And once again, at a sweep, every other fishkeeper is scooped up a bag marked "not my customers!" and beaten with a stick...

I'd also suggest that if you consider this forum populated only by a bunch of money-grubbing, petty amateurs and generally the bane of real fishkeepers, well... I think you know where I'm going with this...

Yet again.......yet again......I do not post up here just for my benefit.....and for once read the post and leave out the ire.....this is not about me.....or is it about having a go at someone........if you have nothing positive to add then all you are doing is being negative.....i cannot make people spend their money so i am well over that.... i suggest u move on to the point at hand.....are u happy just to go to a chain store that doesnt give a dam who comes through the door......or would u prefer.....to keep the shop that is run by a hard working independent.....open........

Forget about me.........

I can look after my self........

Now i suggest people should consider the long term well being of the hobby........and where it is going...........there is no one left....in Dublin.........the capital city and all the independent specialist shops have closed down......what does that say...........i am not bashing forum members.........so ur comments are unhelpful..........spite is a word best forgotten....so move on.......

where is the passion?

Because i raise an issue i have to listen to the same old tirade?

Is this it?

No wonder most of the serious fish keepers have left this forum.......they are tired of the gangs and the vitriol......try being positive for a change and see the bigger picture the point i made was honestly made i have more to be doing than swapping insults........

I think we should be raising an awareness.

I grew up with shops like the Trop Shop in Kilmainham......Dave is still a good friend of mine.......who is going to remember a maxizoo fondly........or a petmania.......

Look at fintastic out in Dunlaoighre.....Dimitri is a very well respected guy....but who is gonna help keep him in business?

I should hope all of you are.........is that too much to ask.....

Anyway enough said......if you guys cannot see the woods for the trees i am talking to the wrong people........Aquatic Village has over 220 five star reviews and most of the customers are over the moon with the level of help they get from us.......but on this forum....we get ridiculed every time a point is made.....thats not good.....i am the only sponsor that bothers to post here.....i hope when others read these threads they can make up their own minds..........

Anyway happy fish keeping all.....hope you have a wonderful weekend.........
