Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Ok it has to be public, but the sponsor ideally needs to reply also to the questions being asked, which included one about it being public or not and they failed to reply. Its fine having an auction but it needs to be kept up to date also, particularly when this auction isnt exclusive to this forum either.

This is in danger of developing into a bit of a 'Witch Hunt' which is hardly what we're after on a Fish Forum.
Please allow the Sponsor time to reply first - I know for a definite fact that he has a lot on his plate right now with AV developments so mightn't have time to be looking and replying here at the moment.

So please give him time.

If this descend further the thread will be locked, or even deleted.

I fully accept that fact Gavin, I was just trying to make the point (perhaps a little clumsily) that this could become unpleasant and feel it best for Ian to be given the right to reply first.

ok guys never wanted to be a witch hunt but i did pm an offer on the first day of €80 and havent heard anything since yet on the other forum it was started at the same time as well with a time limit of 1 week, top bid there was €50 so if that is the case i have won, but no communication from sponsers has left me feeling a little pee'd off, if this is the case and because they either ignored my pm or couldnt be bothered checking this forum i lost well i would be miffed to say the least, all i can ask is Johnh could you please investigate this on behalf of the our forum... again just trying to state i'm NOT after a witch hunt here just some fairness and communication from the people running this "supposed" auction

Seamus,
It was never suggested you were intending starting a 'Witch Hunt' - I said it was in danger of developing into one.
I have already sent a PM to Ian, but I do know he is very busy at the moment and from Forum records I can also see he hasn't logged in since April 5.
He ought to be given the opportunity to give an explanation, that's what I feel anyway.

I do think you have grasped the wrong end of the stick here - I said I know Ian is very busy - not me, that's (for anyone who knows me) not a word in my vocabulary!

Sheag35 remember that just like you choose to send a PM so could someone else, either on this forum or any other, so don't be so sure you won.

That is why the bids should be public.

Also I think it very cheeky to be asking John to investigate a bid you placed by private message on a sponsors section of the forum.

Sheag35 wrote: "all i can ask is Johnh could you please investigate this on behalf of the our forum..."

You want to follow it up, use the PM to contact AV, use the phone or whatever but don't expect a forum admin to do it for you.

As this is a sponsors section, I will reserve any further comments for a separate posting.

Good luck to whoever wins the auction, a large royal plec is always a sight to behold.

It always amazes me how certain people cannot keep their mouth shut in one situation and in the next moment decides to disappear. I sympathise with the bidders in this situation.

if aquatic village are extremely busy with developments well then maybe it wasnt in his best interests to start an auction that he cant maintain , after all its us people of these forums that facilitates his developments by buying his fish etc , dont mean that cheekily just stating the common sense side of things ....

He had already stated a deadline of a week on another forum, witch is why this is to messy its not fare on the people who got the last bid in on the original deadline if people can now bid higher???? doesnt look good for the forum either

Paul, for what it's worth we here are only interested in our Forum and as far as this is concerned there was no end date given.
I agree with you - this did become a bit 'messy' but it is resolved amicably now (he says with fingers crossed) with today being the final date.

Dragging it over will not help at all so please let's leave this in the spirit it was re-opened in - to allow for further bids before the deadline?

I take my share of the blame for allowing this to happen, it shouldn't have been allowed to get out of hand as much as it did before the thread was closed...and it will not be allowed to happen again, trust me.
