Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin
sad day for me.

Seems you done everything you could
To keep her going!
Anyone with a aquarium can keep fish,
But it takes real skill to be a fish keeper,
And it's spongeBob,
SpongeBob lives in a pineapple under the sea

I think the minute that a fish becomes your "favourite" you're on a countdown to the end- that is the way it has worked in my tank up to now!

Davey I did think that mayb shd is better dead but she would come good for a while and then go down again. I know in the wild she would have lasted a few days only. Im from a traditional farming backround that believes where there is life there is hope. There is an on going debate about if fish feel pain or depression.
I think you did what you felt was right, which is all anyone can do

I know what ye mean and just like to ask individuals opinions thats all. I come from a smallholding background myself and worked on farms where the worst thing ye can do is get too attached to anything because they were all slaughtered or my fathers a butcher so surrounded by it. Horses were all around me too yet I was never a big fan but my worse memories was bringing a sick horse to be put down.... there were horse limbs everywhere because they were fed to their hounds after being killed (I was well in my 20's). Not to mention hunting which was for dinner as opposed to sport but got my 1st bunny at 7yo.
I just like to get peoples take on it because I personally believe it best to put things down at times to save them the suffering which also gives them the respect they deserve imo. I truly do believe fish feel as much as we do because they have bodies and lives too yet if I were to think otherwise I don't think I'd be putting as much effort into caring for them because sure they wouldn't feel or suffer from the neglect then....
Anyways I do feel for your loss and its never nice to loose your favourite
