Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Nice stocklist Ken - Sounds like your Malawi tank has plenty of blues in it.
Love the figure 8 puffers too - have you thought of trying a few bumble bee gobies in with them?

Ok, might as well throw my lot in. Stock list is lower than I would like it at the moment but my better half wants to buy a new house soon and I don't want to buy all that many new fish before we move ( I am sure my local LFSs will live without my business for a month or so without going out of business:laugh: )

12 discus
20 Corydoras sterbai
20 Corydoras panda
10 Corydoras agassizi
2 L90
4 Chaetosoma thomasoni (I think)
4 L59
4 L15 (not entirely sure)
5 L204
about 50 Cardinal tetras
20 Penguin tetras
6 Apisodoras (not sure which species)
Guppys, mollies (don't make me count them  )
about 10 Pelviachromis pulcher,
Apistogramma borelli (Opal)
A. hongsloi
A. viejta
A. nijsseni
A. panduro
2 trios of Aphysemion gardneri

That all folks. Once we moved I will either have a dedicated fishroom or house and will stock up on more fish. Definitely start breeding discus and Apistogrammas again. My wife has her eyes set on a jelly bean tank (sorry, meant Malawi tank). Only to glad to oblige for once...
My dad's still holding those L146s for me and I will have to bite the bullet and fly Lufthansa from Dublin to Frankfurt and do a 400 mile roundtrip plus the Cork Dublin roundtrip to bring them over.

I have an African tank with various cichlids and four largeish cats.
A marine tank with a Pipefish, a Flame Hawkfish, A maroon Clown, A Blue/Yellow damsel, pair of cleaner shrimp and various anenomes & inverts.
An amazon (sic) tank with 5 Discus, 5 Butteryflys, Shoal of hengels Rasbora, 10 ass. Cories and some other curios, like a horsehead loach and a pair of Bamboo shrimp.

1*600l
1*300l
4*100l
3*60l
not half enough really :(
Once we move I'll built a 800l showtank. Glass is already cut and waiting to be stuck together. It will be an in-situ job. Planning to fit a 200l sump under it. BTW, shocking prices for toughened 16mm glass in Ireland. I got it shipped in and paid less than half what it would have cost me if I had bought it here.
Also on the cards are a couple of discus breeding cubes (50*50*50), 4-5 200-300l growing on tanks. A dozen or so 80-100l tanks for my Apistogramma. All I have to do now is win the lotto

Breeding pair of L. Caerulus. (And the last two fry, could be M&F)
Pair (not breeding) of what might be Red Empress.

One pinky/white Aulonocara type.
One albino cichlid you always see, can;t think ogf the name.
1 Red shoulder Hap (possibly)
1 VC10
1 unknown (to me anyway)
4 Moori (Blue dolphin)

Tangs:
1 Juli. Brichardi
1 Jul. (don't know)
3 Leleupi (no pairs)
1 White Calvus.
1 Gold Compressiceps.
1 Female Frontosa (@8\")

Cats:
1 Mystus Lucophassus (sp) 8-9\"
1 Syno. Eupterus 8\"
1 Syno. Pardalis 7\"
1 Syno. unknown (to me) 6\"
1 small unknown cat 3\" (black, white spots, front facing mouth, very timid) (squeaker?)

Goodness Holger I had no idea you had that many tanks.

I can barely get away with having three. It took me ages to convince the missus to have one & then once I got one I snuck another two in under the radar.
Thats it until I get a lot more space though.
I hope you're going to convert to the dark side and fill that 800 litre tank with African Cichlids !!! ;)

Sounds like you have some big cats there Didihno! The VC10 is a cool fish too, I have a big one about 6 inches. I nicknamed him Denzel Washington as the likeness is uncanny :P

Some serious fish lists there guys - Daragh you'd make a fortune doing guided tours ;) More fish than Bray aquarium..
Is the Giraffe catfish big?

Seems like there's a few catfish fans on the boards - you'll have to watch out for Acara & Holger breaking into your house.

Lots of people with more than one tank too which is great. Though not great for water changes, I've to go & do 3 tanks shortly....

The Giraffe or \"Jacko\" as he prefers to be called is about 16\"-18\" at the moment and rapidly getting too big for his 450 litre tank. He was much livelier when younger (and smaller) now he spends most of his life wondering when his next meal will be delivered.

He is a true gentle giant and lives with little tetras and never bothers anyone.

Introducing Jacko:

Spot the gold tetras. One thing he is not gentle about is re-arranging the bog wood to locate a bit of food he might have missed, he just ploughs through whatever is in his way!

Nice fish list S180 - I didn't realise there was more than one type of oto - you learn something new every day.. I bought one the other day & he is an algae eating machine!!
