Stocking a 110 litre tank
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I have a 610 * 460 * 460 tank sitting virtually empty & annoying me.
Holds about 110 litres of water according to my calculations.
Its decorated with mopani wood & java fern, running 2 internal filters (fluval 3 plus & eheim aquaball).
Substrate is coral sand, PH 7.6ish temp 26 degrees.
Lighting is a hang on Arcadia arc pod so not very bright.
Currently home to 4 small African cichlid fry which will soon be large enough to be moved out & into my cichlid tank.
As well as one ghost shrimp, an otto, a small bristlenose & a small stardust plec.
The tank looks empty, the catfish are always in hiding & the cichlids are 1 inch fry.
I need some stocking suggestions to give it some life.
The tank is open top so nothing too inclined to jump nor anything that will outgrow the tank.
I have a collection of tetras & some corys in another tank so not too inclined to put more of these species in this one.
I'm thinking possibly a figure 8 puffer but havent seen any in the shops for a while.
Or possibly some shell dwellers though I havent seen any that have particularly caught my eye.
The tank doesnt see much traffic as its in an upstairs room so ideally need boisterous fish that won't get terrified every time I enter the room as they won't see people that often.
Suggestions please?
Cheers,
Patrick.

Don't have alot to suggest... figure eight pubber would be very cool... but think they need to be fed live food regurally, to thrive. they also should only be kept with others of their own size, but maybe the catfish would be o.k.
About your catfish, I have 5 otos and a bristle nose and two different types of synodontis and four albino corydoras. only the otos and corys are very active during the day, others hide away in my plants and behind bogwood for most of the day, but they do tend to come out more at night or in the evening.if your otos hides away aswell maybe he needs some more of his own kind. but if your gonna get a puffer maybe it's aswell to move him if possible, given that they are very small.
anyway, I'm sure you knew all of this already... but if not hope it helped

I've decided to take the plunge & turn it into a marine tank!
Thanks for your suggestions though.

It can be really hard to sex some cichlids as juveniles & even mature sub dominant males can show female colouration...
The fish I have are yelow labs (labidochromis careleus) & it seems to be really hard to get females - the only reason I've bred them is to grow on some females..
