Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Without re-inventing the wheel, does anyone have a Word/Excel document
of the most Tropical fish purchased with their (1) latin/scientific name
(2) common names and (3) a picture

eg:
(1) Pleco
(2) Hypostomus plecostomus
(3) <picture>

I'm not 100% up to speed on what different fish I hear about look like
when I read about them, something like this would be like the
dummies guide to tropical fish

even a good weblink might do !!

thanks, Brian.

I find it more interesting to get peoples actual experiences, although that site is a bit too "fluffy"(to try and be pc).If you look at sites that just list the parameters required for a species, they can vary considerably, confusing the aspiring keeper.Having said that, you will see many circumstances on that site where one keepers experiences vary dramatically from another keeper of the same species.Just goes to show nothing in fishkeeping is set in concrete.

always on the lookout for interesting corys.pm me if you know off any!

Is there anyway we can start setting up our own list of fish names-to-pictures here on the website?

If we were to do this photos would need to be taken by members and not taken off the net. But good idea Brian

well not to disagree with LB but pics can be taken from the net but just check their not copyrighted thats where the trouble is.. some sites will even let you use them if you assign credit for the pics to them.. great idea though

Go on I love a good argument :P

But pics can be taken from the net but just check their not copyrighted that’s where the trouble is

Any photos should be of a high quality and to take high quality photos off the net would require permission off the photographer, most photographers would be happy for you to use their photos and link it to their home site.

Some sites will even let you use them if you assign credit for the pics to them... great idea though

As above, It would be a good idea for us to work on ;) where could we host it?

There is a Wiki that does this or will do, they use some of my photos, but I can't find it at the moment!!! I will check and post a link tomorrow.
